Sheezy Critiques II

hello, first off i wanna say the first round of critiques went really well. i saw a lot of good commentings going around. this is awesome to see and i hope it continues to be postive! (obviously if anyone is giving you a hard time, please let me know!) for now i think i'll be posting these once or twice a month, but we'll see how it goes. ^ ^

secondly, for those that don't know, i've become an offcial sheezy helper. basically not a mod, but a rung under a mod. so if you have any questions about the site or just need help in general even, feel free to reach out to me. that includes anything you would talk to a mod about, i just don't have authority to make any final decisions myself. i also try to make resource lists/share resources from other creators if you need art help. my goal is to make everyone's experience on here fun.

alright, rules are same as last time! i've copied them bellow just so it's clear though. let's get critiquing! <3

------------------------------------------------------------

The short version is: post in the comments a piece you’d like to get constructive criticism on, critique other users in the thread, and grow as artists together!

I’m planning to post a journal weekly for submissions. I’m hoping to emulate the experience of getting critiques in an art school setting. (No, this is not offcial in any way! I just know not everyone wants this level examination, but some people do and I will say critiques are what have helped me the most as an artist.)

Your comment should include the piece, the medium, and any details you’d like people to know. Perhaps what you’d like to convey with the piece or what you think you might want help with. It MUST be a specific piece. Pieces should be submitted by Saturday to give everyone a chance to comment on it.

Rules:

1. Critique should not be bashing on a piece. Don’t be negative. Comments should be made from a place of positivity.

Ex: “You did x completely wrong” vs “I liked a, b , c, but I think x could use some work. Something I do to help me is ____.”

2. Try to be thoughtful with your critique. It is not enough to say you like a piece or do not.

Consider things such as: concept, composition, lighting/values, color, linework, balance, contrast, anatomy, ect. You don’t have to include everything, but try to look at works with a critical eye.

3. Do not redline a work unless asked for by the artist.

Redlining is when you sketch over an existing piece to better illustrate a fix. This is often done for anatomy, but could be for something like composition as well. It’s rude to do this without permission.

4. If you submit a piece to be critiqued, you must critique another person’s work.

This is to be fair. You have until the end of Sunday to post a comment.

5. Don’t take any one person’s opinion as law.

While the main point of the exercise is to make you comfortable with getting feedback, please don’t take any one person’s opinions as facts. You might have a reason you did something and prefer to stick with that. That’s completely fine! Many things in art are subjective.

6. Don’t break the rules.

They’re simple. The point is to be helpful. If I see someone breaking the rules they will get a warning. If it keeps happening you will be blacklisted from my critique circle.
