Uncertainty

Re-uploading more lits from toyhouse... "Demonhand and Offal have a dramatic gay moment just days before arriving at the city of libraries."

Please look at their refs so you can visualize them better :)

DEMONHANDS REF - toyhou.se/3456633.demonhand-#34714853

OFFAL'S REF - toyhou.se/3456660.offal-#33704064

Demonhand rolled onto his back and stared at the top of his tent. He, Offal, and Deja had a small campsite set up in the forest. Demonhand slept alone in Deja’s old tent, while Deja and Offal slept together in Offal’s larger tent. It was only a few more days of travel until they reached the city of libraries now, and then they would do some research and find a way for him to get home. Why did that thought make his stomach hurt?

He flopped onto his side, feeling the familiar tingle of anxiety spread across his shoulders. Attempting to steady himself barely helped at this point, there weren’t many things that could calm him down all the way out here in the forests of another dimension. His mind just kept running as his body filled with adrenaline, heart dropping as he thought harder and harder about his current situation. He didn’t want to leave Rhun, not at all. In fact, he wanted to stay here forever. But he couldn’t let himself feel that way. He needed to leave and go back to where he belonged. To Earth. I mean. that’s where he’s supposed to be, right? There was a reason why he was born on Earth and not Rhun. If he was meant to be here he would’ve started here. Right? Certainly that was correct. It had to be. He’ll step through some portal or whatever and it’ll all go back to normal, his body will go back to normal, his life will go back to normal, h-

His ear flicked. A new sound had joined the chorus of cicadas and crickets in the forest. It sounded like… breathing? Super fast breathing. Hyperventilating. He propped himself up on his elbow, eyes closed and ears pricked in an attempt to focus all that he could on the sound of that breathing. It was coming from the right, a few yards away from him. He crawled over and partially unzipped his tent, peering through the opening to see what was going on. His eyesight has gotten much better now, especially in the dark. That scared him. But still, at that moment, it had proven useful. He could easily see what had been causing that noise, Offal. They were sitting on a log with their back towards the camp, shoulders heaving up and down with their ragged breaths.

Okay, now what? Should he do something? Say something? The hyper-ventilating continued, wrenching at Demonhand’s heart. Offal didn't deserve to feel this way. They were always so kind and happy. What could have them upset like this? Maybe they also felt anxiety about being in the woods and about to enter a scary bustling city? Demonhand decided he would try to help. He slowly unzipped his tent the rest of the way and took a few timid steps forward, crouched down with his ears angled as forward as possible. He paused, second guessing himself, but decided to continue on.

“H-hey… Offal?”

Offal stiffened up and made a confused noise, turning their head to the side just enough for a pupil to fixate on Demonhand.

“I… heard you. Are you, like… Okay?”

They broke eye contact, looking back into the forest. “I… Well, I don’t know, honestly.”

Demonhand continued walking and sat down on the log. He wasn’t quite sure what to do now. What could he say? Hey, come spill your guts to this total stranger! That won’t be awkward or uncomfortable at all! That’s not weird and invasive to just show up and demand answers on why someone’s feeling s**tty! What was he even doing? What could he possibly do to he-

“You’re breathing heavily.” Offal’s deep voice cut into his thoughts.

“I came here because you were hyper-ventilating,” He responded. “Do you wanna… talk about it?”

Offal’s pupils flicked around his face, while Demonhand’s eyes stayed locked on theirs. They still didn't say anything.

Demonhand attempted to be helpful by filling the silence, “You anxious about the city too?”

Offal tilted their head to the side. “...Yeah… Yeah, that’s it. I’m anxious about going there. And I feel lonely, and scared.”

He subconsciously waved his tail back and forth in thought. “Do you want to, uh, come share my tent instead of Deja’s? I couldn’t sleep anyways, so I guess I could keep you company, y’know? Make my insomnia worth something? Since you said you feel lonely and all."

“I would… Feel happier like that.”

When they got back to Demonhand’s tent with Offal’s sleeping bag, they quietly crawled in and settled down. The silence got a bit awkward now that they were going to be sleeping next to each other. Demonhand started tensing up again in anxiety, which caused Offal to shuffle around uncomfortably.

“Hey, do you want a hug?” They asked.

Well, to be honest he wasn’t quite sure. Normally he didn’t like being touched, but Offal was nice, so maybe it wouldn't be so bad.

“Uh, okay. Okay, yeah, sure.” He stammered.

He allowed Offal’s arms to wrap around his body, sheepishly putting his own at their sides. He let the fronts of his horns rest against Offal’s chest. His body stayed stiff for a while, even though he was feeling calmed by this. After some time, Offal pulled away slightly and looked Demonhand in the eye.

He swallowed nervously. “Are you- Are you alright?”

“Yeah. Yeah I just, I…”

Their faces were only a few inches apart now, and neither of them were quite thinking when they closed their eyes and ended the distance between them.

They didn’t keep track of how long the kiss lasted. Demonhand's mind was overflowing with conflicting feelings. He wanted to stay distant, stay away from the good things he didn't deserve. This wasn’t something he needed right now. He didn’t need any more reasons to wish he could stay on Rhun when he knew he had to return to Earth. This was everything he ever wanted, and that terrified him.

So he did the exact opposite of what he wanted to do and he pulled away, nervously scratching at his neck, “Uh, sorry. Do you, uh, wanna go to- to bed?”

“Yeah.” Offal replied in a tone that was impossible to read.

Without another word from either, they quietly crawled into their sleeping bags and laid down.

He only got around two hours of sleep that night.
