"yeah. hes great, id honestly given up on love until i found him." zane smiled, setting one hand on his friends shoulder. "im glad you found him" cole smiled back, "me too." he looked at his hands, fidgeting in his lap, for a while. "you know.. its funny, i used to have the biggest crush on you." zane stared at cole, utterly blindsided by the statement. he replayed countless memories, analyzing them with the new context. it shouldve been obvious, but perhaps his own feelings, or his lack of social competency, had prevented him from seeing what was right in front of him. "..no, that is not particularly funny" cole laughed nervously. "i dont know why i said that, to be honest. you can forget about it if you want" zane shook his head. "no. i.. i think i had feelings for you as well. i did not know what they were, and i did not recognize the signs that you returned them. i... wish you had told me sooner" now it was coles turn to look dumbfounded. "i had no idea. i thought you werent interested at all, especially after you met pixal" "what i feel for pixal is not the same. i love her, but i would never consider her a girlfriend or romantic interest. she was the first nindroid i met, i have felt very connected to her on a level i cannot quite explain ever since" cole seemed to deflate a little. the two looked at each other, the weight of the missed opportunity palpable in the stunned silence. zane was the first to break it, smiling softly. "i truly am happy for you, my friend" cole enveloped the nindroid in a tight hug. "thank you, zane. im sorry things didnt turn out differently." zane returned the hug, albeit more gently. the two remained in the embrace, neither wanting to let go, until long after they had both fallen asleep, because this might be the only chance they would get to indulge in what could have been.
