As a child, before even starting school or kinder-garden, I used to see demonic shapes appearing as light-after-images.(Y’know, like when you’ve been temporarily blinded by a bright flashlight?) . They’d only show up after my mom turned off the lights and I was laying in bed. They’d slowly creep closer to my face as I stared at them. I had to stare, because blinking just made them approach faster. The only way to not see them was to hide under the blanket, eyes open, until it got too hard to breathe. Then, eyes tightly shut, poke my head out and fall asleep that way. Later on, this was combated by keeping a night-light on. Eventually, I learned to just ignore the lights. Sometime into the first year at the Christian boarding school, the demonic lights disappeared. Or so I thought. One day, in broad daylight, my room-mate, who I also considered my best friend at the school, nervously announced that she was seeing demonic shaped lights. That’s when I realized… it’s not that the lights had gone away… they had transferred and attached themselves to her instead. Uuh-oh. Keeping calm, I told her not to worry. She would get used to it. The lights couldn’t hurt her. I used to see them too, but not anymore. Later that year, that same room-mate came up to me one day and asked for my forgiveness… in private. She felt really bad about having made fun of me behind my back... in public. I smiled and immediately told her I forgave her. Telling her not to worry about it.Truth is... I'd never felt so betrayed. As soon as she had left, I broke down in tears. It wasn't until many MANY years later, as an adult, that I truly forgave her. Within my heart, I mean. I sincerely hope the lights aren’t plaguing her anymore and that she’s doing well.....................................................................................................................................
