in the middle of 2024 (around mid may?), I lost basically all of my art from around 2023 to that point in 2024.
I was able to recover some of it by virtue of posting it elsewhere, but because I was backlogged, and because I don't post sketches anywhere, I still lost a pretty big amount, including all the layer files... I like to keep those.
It's been over a year since that... and for the most part, I'm over it. It still causes confusion currently, in what to upload and whatnot... but it was a lesson learned. I back up my files every month now, and I made an art archive on ToyHouse. I still need to get better at posting sketches... but that's on me.
But, at the time, it was pretty devastating. I was already slowing down because someone had made a pretty self-deprecating comment set off by my art, and that stalled me completely.
Anyway...
Remember to make backups! That's the takeaway here. Don't assume technology won't fail you, be it some kinda hardware or software fault, or a website being taken down, something... always good to keep spares of everything.
