ive had this idea in my mind for a while but i wanted to wait until autism acceptance month, i found out its this month (whoops) but still on time i guess.
i am autistic. i was diagnosed when i was 14, which is extremely late for some and extremely early for others, although i had some tests done on me before my baby teeth started falling out (all inconclusive lol). id put some citations regarding autism from a cientific/medical perspective, but truthfully all we know is that we have it and we got no clue how it works. ive had some time to ponder about my neurodivergence so im gonna write what i feel here as most coherent as i can, gonna try my best not to ramble.
im high functioning/low needs, i can function and assimilate into society smoothly, but i have some quirks. i dont really make that much eye contact, i carry my headphones everywhere, i tend to get lost fairly easily when speaking to people that dont know me well; small stuff really, and people usually got no clue im autistic unless i tell them. i used to feel very strongly about being autistic, sometimes i resented it greatly and other times it made me feel like a god among common peasants, now ive sort of mellowed out. i view autism not as a good or bad thing but as a thing, a thing entirely different from being neurotypical (which is why you cant compare them without being biased as all hell). like all things, theres good and bad sides to being neurodivergent, and that bad is not going away anytime soon; the best example i can give is going on a hike. there are times where youre gonna be cruising just fine and other times where youre gonna have to break your muscles to get to the top. you just gotta find a way to scale the hard parts, eventually itll be smooth sailing once again.
if youre wondering if youre neurodivergent of some kind or are upset because you cant figure out how your brain works (trust me, ive been there) i hear you; self diagnosis is completely 100% valid and for many its the first step towards discovery or diagnosis. if you wanna investigate for yourself or to understand a person youn know, theres many helpful resources online that can make you understand this stuff better (be careful though, theres an equal amount of conmen and 'information' deeply tied to politics, bleugh). if youre neurodivergent of some kind or doubting being neurotypical, feel free to comment your experience, i love hearing about others perspectives on this sorta stuff. yea thats about it, seeya!
