Because in a civilized society, you cannot go around eating your fellows!

In ancient times this plant existed in a nutritional state not unlike our beans and potatoes- rich in protein, and other vitamins and minerals, but you could not sustainably feed a Manticore with it. As agriculture emerged, this was one of the first plants to be magically augmented. Finding a way for carnivores to avoid resorting to murder to eat was of course, a top priority for the new societies being established.

I'm not sure if it's a vegetable, or fruit... Vegetuit (vege-TOOT)? Magical things don't need to fit in the categories of real plants, so probably it is something else entirely. It also doesn't have a name yet. I will probably avoid naming it anything that likens it to a body part (like bloodfruit, etc) because the whole idea is that nobody in this world even thinks about meat in terms of being edible anymore. Nobody has any kind of urges or residual instincts to consume meat. Your friends and family are made of it, after all. The desire to rip, tear, toss, bat, or otherwise play with the plant isn't uncommon though.

I don't normally use my own handwriting- it's not good. But none of the font choices were vibing with me for that traditional-sketch aesthetic i was trying to achieve for this concept art.
