This! This is the one the whole fight was building up to, in all honesty. My first ever digital drawing, July 25, 2021, was the first attack on my account, this weird drawing of my girlfriend's black serval lad Dai admiring a strange wet spot on one of the guild walls (yeah I don't get it either). Crazy to look at it now--it's kinda still alright, despite being wonky as shit!
I always intended to redraw it yearly, but unfortunately, I couldn't think of a way that felt good or natural to me to do it, so I left it for 2022 and 2023. This year, though--I mean, it was my first year properly participating, I had to do something with Dai! I drew him with my own mage kitty Maldwyn way back when and Caby loves the two of them together, so it only made sense to do something with them both.
I knew I wanted to do some kind of mixed media attack instead of awkwardly drawing out a background, and thankfully, I have a background in making levels for Quake, so it was pretty simple to make a cool looking chunk of cave with quadsoups in TrenchBroom and light it up dramatically in the Quake engine, running it through the software renderer (or something close to it) for all the crunch I can get. (I also used a palettizer script to constrain all the colors on Dai and Maldwyn to the strange custom 256 color palette software Quake uses to blend them extra into the background).
Without a doubt my favorite attack of mine so far, and possibly the best thing I've ever drawn. That probably means no one else will pay it much mind, but hey!
