A fantasy trope that I wish came up more often. These guys are essentially supposed to be like weird birds that people raise to ride around, I'm not sure if I want them to be made or naturally born just yet but the idea is that they are customizable to the riders preferences (it doesn't hurt them) and can have very distinct personalities. Maybe they can also get really big so they can transport heavy cargo and multiple people at once.
