The pillars you are seeing are not trees, they're E class structures, formed along the first radiating waves of the verse's genesis- though to assume this universe has life wouldn't be too far off. Though, you're a couple million years late.
The single star equivalent body that just barely gave this universe it's K classification is to thank for that. The flash fossilized remains of unknown organisms jut from the ground, unrecognizable as anything but rocks to the uneducated viewer.
