Hello fellow sheezers,
I’m sure you are all sick of hearing about this and the journals covering it, but there are some things I feel like a lot of people only briefly touch upon or mention on this new “Anti-NSFW”trend going on.
Forgive me for being a bit of a light doomer here in the ramble
“This is a UK law, why is it affecting me?”
I don’t think a lot of people truly understand how widespread this change is. On the internet, rarely do things not traverse boarders.
The internet is it’s own culture, in and of itself with many subsets, sure, but a space many different people share.
The “Internet safety act” is something slowly being adopted by more and more places around the world. - It isn’t JUST the UK, something I have seen people state - And it is true, the core isn’t safety, it never was. It was control and data collection infringing on privacy, and the matter in which it is employed from country to country varies.
For the UK, it’s this law, for the US I have seen talk about credit cards and banks taking the lead.
Be informed on the changes around you, ignorance is a luxury of the uncaring.
“I’m just gonna move my NSFW to something else or self host then.”
BSKY and even Itch.io from what I have seen mentioned are being affected in some way. Every other site will be forced to follow suit by law.
If these sites don’t comply then they can be region locked, banned or could face fines and their creators jail time. Which could affect how many people your NSFW content can reach - your posting and interaction bubble is shrinking as we speak.
I haven’t seen anyone say this anywhere yet and I feel like it needs to be:
If YOU don’t comply much of the same could still happen. - If you live in a country implementing these laws you are NOT safe self hosting. You will have to implement a way for people to verify their age on YOUR own site, and like mentioned in the law “I am 18+” checkbox wont cut it. - right now it would only be for UK users but that will change unless something gets done about it.
Ok but let’s say you don’t live in the UK and don’t care about that audience. - You will be affected.
Cause like I’m tryna really hammer in there, this is a trend.
Powerful people are lobbying for this because they see it as an easy way to collect more data from you, it is no secret the NSFW industry has the largest viewership as the oldest of professions. People like their freak and rarely do they like not being able to have it.
There isn’t really a conclusion to this, this journal being more of a warning and letting people know that there wont be an easy way around this for long.
Talk to your representatives / if you are in the UK then sign the petition to repeal the law

I'm still planning of following through with my goals, which if you didn't read my previous journal they are:
Draw more Furries. Yes I see you, this is purely so I can have more furry examples in my coms refs but also cause some of the designs are super fun, there is no denying this.
Do some 3D attacks. Because I realize that my poor 3D persona is a bit sparse of late, and I do enjoy 3D art
Do some Pixel art attacks, because sprites are fun! and again, I wanna do more of them
Do some attack drawing live on stream - To motivate me to actually do it and y'know, streaming also fun :)
Still open to people linking the characters they want attacked, but like I mentioned with my schedule I may not be able to attack them all, I will try my damnedest.

To start of yes I plan on participating, it probably wont be a lot - as work has me busy and dead most of the time - but I am setting myself some GOALS to work with which are bellow:

Kinda sad and a lil' :/ that they are announcing the teams so late, I WAS gonna decorate my page as much as I could to the theme like I did last year, but with how late it's being announced I have no idea if I will have enough time for this, welp, it is what it is ig.
I have not made a hitlist yet,,, I KNOW I said I would make a better one than last time this year but I got distracted with Vintage Story so I didn't and probably wont till the theme is released now, whoops
All of the options for themes put forward so far are quite interesting, obv I do have my preferences ->
But Idm if something gets picked that I don't want, I just wanna draw the blorbos
If me drawing your blorbos for free is something you want maybe leave an AF link bellow of the character, I can't promise I will do them all but I will do at least a couple, think of it like a gatcha ig LMAO

How many usernames have you had? (You don't have to share them!)
I've had I think 4 in total, I'm not gonna share them all but the 1st one I had "LunaLov3" was my 1st Minecraft account name and the name kinda stuck so I used it online for several years. It didn't have super deep meaning or anything, I just had a dog named Luna and I loved her LOL
What does your current username mean?
Again I don't go super deep with my usernames, It's just Dax which is my real name (tho not my legal name #justgenderqueerthings) + Doodles because illitiration and it sounded good. And I do the doodle.
What is the first program you used to make digital art?
It was a pirated version of Paint Tool SAI, because I was 17 and broke as hell, on top of not knowing anything about art and picking the 1st thing that people where recomending for beginers at the time. And I stayed with SAI for a long time before getting Photoshop in college for a while, then moving to Clip Studio, which is now my main art software.
Where did you first start posting your art?
On Instagram, again, I knew nothing about the art world when I started out. And I started out this whole digital/online art thing quite later in my life than most people did or do nowadays. I didn't learn about DA until my second year of college.
What is the first piece of media you drew fanart for?
I'm not really a big fanart person, but a friend of mine is super into the fandom space stuff, so my first fanarts where of "Steven Universe" and "Star vs the forces of Evil". Mostly cause she liked them and would request that art.
Who was your first self-insert/persona/fursona? What did they mean to you?
My sona character that I draw today was adapted from my 1st sona over many many years now but some parts about it remain from the OG design.
It started off as a sorta just a rough simple cartoony drawing of myself and originally had black cat ears and tail (because I was a massive weeb) and was sorta my take on the avatars popular online artists who where into animation were doing.
They have changed and fit more to my identity now and is just a representation of what I want people to visualise when they think about me, mostly online.
What phases/styles has your art gone through? (e.g. an anime era, a watercolour phase?)
Baybe I've done em all - Anime, watercolour, gouache, clay modeling, scrappbooking, crafts, water makers, alcohol markers, childrens book style, lineless illustration, digital painting, oil painting, pastels, acrylic painting and pours, spray painting and street style illustration, tattoo designs, stickers, logos and graphic design...
You fucken name it I've probably gone through that phase or touched that medium at least once.
What/who do you think has influenced your art style the most?
Being cringe online probably. Idk I always hate this question because everything and nothing influences me it feels.
Like, "idk man, I just draw the way I do because I wanna"
What/who inspired you to be an artist?
Myself.
jk, its only half true, mostly golden age animation movies and anime, and just the way doing art feels. Its enjoyable, that's really the only inspo I need.
What tools are integral to your current workflow? (e.g. Programs, brushes, references.)
Currently its very much CSP and my fave brushes in that program but isn't 100% necesarry, I also draw on IPad with procreate on occasion cause sitting at my tablet to draw can take a lot more spoons than lying in bed on my IPad.
What improvements have you made recently?
HONESTLY. I feel like I have regressed a little in art skill wise because I haven't been doing it as often as I would like due to work. But maybe that is just because I've fallen into that curve of "My ability to critique my art has surpased my current skill so needs to catch up" thing.
What steps would you like to take in the future?
DRAW MORE! KEEP ARTING!
