I do use 3D models, but. They dont help make you better at art. They can give you results faster. Faster results can be a boon, but not in the serious study and practice sense.

There is an "i traced this from 3D models" art style, and its stiff and awkward. 3D models arent affected by gravity* . 3D models are too strict or too loose with anatomy**. Learning to overcome the problems with 3D models is a part of using them. They bring new challenges.
And it doesnt help that Clip Studio's 3D engine is kinda ass, and feels decades out of date. Have they seen the Eevee render engine.
Wait I just remembered Webtoons artists still use Sketchup. Fuck. Christ.
Seeing badly composited 3D in digital art is so funny (negative, mean). Draw it in Paint next time.
None of this is saying 3D is bad. I'm saying its a productivity tool not an educational tool.

Honestly if you struggle to draw a single static pose without 3D, its a bad sign. A lot of people determined to PROVE 3D models are LEGITIMATE, producing the most boring and stiff looking pics you've ever seen.

All the art in this thread is so boring oh my god. (Other than the hands) did you really need a 3D model to draw an extremely standard pose. Front on, no dynamics, no foreshortening or anything artistically challenging. (Including the hands) is it that hard to search flickr for the viral heart hands gesture. Is 3D reference a skill issue, for people who can't use the search tool on senshistock.
At least use 3D for cool action matrix poses!!

I use 3D. I am also pro-tracing. Trace my art and claim it as your own, you can't copyright a pose. Fuuuuck my art is too shit to steal, I need my next piece to be uncontroversial and lowkey.

*physics sims are possible, but Clip Studio and Design Doll dont do them. You need, like, Blender. And its a huge pain in the ass even if you know what to do.
**You can make constraints to keep poses physically possible, or you can not. The "slightly exaggerated and impossible in an appealing way" posing a lot of art benefits from needs to be felt out in the 2D perspective.
