So, Nintendo will be pricing their games at 70 to 90 dollars now, combined with a console that is 499 on release. Is anyone surprised? I certainly am not. Nintendo is like every other Mega Corporation in the world, greedy apathetic pricks.
Fans are justifiably complaining about this pricing.
Pessimistically, I'm sure these games will STILL sell like hot cakes. Validating Nintendo's reason to ignore their fans like always. Why? Several reasons:
Nintendo has the highest profit properties in the world.
Nintendo has a habit of making fun high-quality games. (Unlike most AAA companies these days, can't believe I'm saying that as a compliment when it should be the bare minimum for a game company.)
They will always have those Nintendo fanatics that can afford EVERY game they release.
Most importantly, they are MASTERS at appealing a casual audience.
Why the 4th one important? It ties into why Nintendo ignores their fans. They don't HAVE to appeal to them because they know the casual consumers will just buy their games anyway and they know it.
For evidence, look at their most recent screw up with Pokemon Scarlet and Violet. That game was rushed out for the holidays, and it sold really well, despite being a lifeless, rushed glitchy mess of a game. Even if Nintendo supposedly gave out refunds for it.
Someone, told Gamefreak to rush that game out for the holidays, knowing it would sell, regardless of its poor quality. Validating GameFreaks tendency to not try making quality Pokemon games. (Though we'll see if that changes with Legends A-Z, it probably won't.)
Keep in mind, GameFreak has openly MOCKED their own fans and their fantastic Fakemons on several occasions, the same Company that recently made a Pokemon that's just a freaking Penguin whose head is trapped in an ice block.
This is the power of appealing to casual consumers, sure, they may not be loyal fans, but they will always buy their games for their familiarity. Again, this is why Nintendo ignores their fans, they don't NEED them to make sure their games sell, they haven't needed them for decades now.
In conclusion, the high pricing is probably not going to deter people from buying Nintendo games.
Ideally, the games bomb hard, and Nintendo is hit with HUGE reality check, then MAYBE they'll consider lowering their game prices.
But I'm not going to hold my breath. Gamers can scream all they want about the pricing; they won't listen and never will, because Nintendo isn't at their mercy, they're at the mercy of the casuals.
