This was from a series of pieces I started in 2022 to illustrate the monthly playlists I make. The intention was to try something new each month and really lean into whatever was inspiring me at the time to capture the energy of how I was feeling then.
Since it was around the time of the Chinese New Year and we were entering the Year of the Tiger, I really wanted to draw a tiger. Tigers are one of my favorite animals and I hardly draw them. It was also Black History Month, so I wanted to tab into the way Black artists inspire me as well. I leaned heavily into a sort of non-specific indigenous feeling here that I think I could approach a bit more precisely in the future. I always have so much to learn and so many ways to grow. I was also inspired by those scratch boards that have color underneath and tried to imitate those when approaching the subjects of this piece.
Anyway, this is where I stopped in this project. I still make monthly playlists, but I don't draw covers for them every month. Or at least, I haven't since this.
