Hello! I'm a digital artist who loves to draw original characters, anime fanart, dinosaurs, and dragons! I also enjoy writing stories about my characters. Currently, I'm working on a scifi/fantasy story about a crew of space pirates that become like a family to each other. ππ΄ββ οΈπ

How many usernames have you had? (You don't have to share them!)
I think only two or three.
What does your current username mean?
Kohaku was the name of an old dragon oc with the scale colors of a koi fish. Later found out Kohaku means Amber which is also my name XD
What is the first program you used to make digital art?
Adobe Photoshop Elements. It came free with my first tablet.
Where did you first start posting your art?
Deviant Art
What is the first piece of media you drew fanart for?
Disney's Dinosaur movie
Who was your first self-insert/persona/fursona? What did they mean to you?
I've never actually made one haha.
Who is your current self-insert/persona/fursona? How are they different to your first?
I still don't have one.
What/who inspired you to be an artist?
My mom. She'd paint these beautiful beach scenes and I wanted to learn to paint like that too.
What tools are integral to your current workflow? (e.g. Programs, brushes, references.)
Clip Studio Paint, laptop, and wacom bamboo tablet (this tablet is 10+ years old but it still works great).
RULES:
Answer each question accurately and honestly. Skip anything you don't know.
Art programs you have but don't use?
Paint Tool Sai. It was one of my first digital art programs. I haven't used it much since I bought CSP though.
Is it easier to draw someone facing left, right, or forward?
For me, it's easiest to draw someone facing forward because I can use the symmetry tool.
What ideas come from when you were little?
Most of my dinosaur and animal art are from ideas/stories I made up when I was little.
Favorite character or subject that's a bitch to draw?
Characters were a lot of detailed clothing.
Estimate of how much of your art you post online VS. the art you keep for yourself?
About 50/50. I post all the art that I'm happy with at the time I finish. I keep the studies, messy art, and unfinished wips to myself most of the time.
Anything that might inspire you subconsciously? (e.g. This horse wasn't meant to look like The Last Unicorn but I see it.)
Space photos, Star Wars, Anime, Jurassic Park, Prehistoric animals, science, people I've met irl
A medium of art you don't work in but appreciate?
Traditional art, especially paintings.
What's an old project idea that you've lost interest in?
I haven't completely lost interest in my "mages with pet dinosaurs" story. I just hit a major writers block and so I need to figure out what to do about it.
Favorite piece of clothing to draw?
Suits, longcoats, and button-up shirts
Do you listen to anything while drawing? If so, what?
Usually the oc playlists I made on spotify or lo-fi playlists on youtube.
Easiest part of body to draw?
Eyes.
A creator who you admire but whose work isn't your thing?
I don't know if there's anyone I admire who's art I don't like...
Any favorite motifs?
I don't think so.
Where do you draw? (Don't drop your IP address, this just means do you doodle at a park or something?)
At my desk.
Something you are good at but don't really have fun doing?
I can't think of anything. It's usually the stuff I'm bad at that I don't enjoy drawing.
Do you eat/drink when drawing? If so, what?
Water or tea.
Favorite inanimate objects to draw? (e.g. Food, nature.)
Books.
Something everyone else finds hard to draw but you enjoy?
Backgrounds sometimes.
Art styles nothing like your own but you like anyways?
Spooky/Tim Burton style art.
What physical exercises do you do before drawing, if any?
Lots of stretching.
Do you use different layer modes?
Yes! Multiple, Add Glow, Screen, and Color Dodge.
Do your references include stock images?
Sometimes yes!
Something your art has been compared to that you were NOT inspired by?
Disney.
What's a piece that got a wildly different interpretation from what you intended?
This Portrait of Altair
People thought he looked smug, which wasn't what I intended lol.
Do you warm up before getting to the good stuff? If so, what is it you draw to warm up with?
If I feel uninspired then I will. If I know what I want to draw then I skip warm ups.
Any art events you have participated in the past? (e.g. Zines.)
I've participated in a ton of Fanzines!
Media you love, but doesn't inspire you artistically?
I can't really think of anything...
