Swedish painter Anders Zorn (1860-1920) was well known for using a limited palette of mainly Flake White, Yellow Ochre, Vermilion, and Ivory Black. With just these four colors, portrait painters can mix a large variety of skin tones.

However, digital artists will quickly discover that mixing these colors does not produce nearly the same results as traditional paints. Some hues (warm greens, gray blues, and maroon purples) are completely lost. This is why I like to use a color set (swatch file) sampled from real world traditional paint mixes. It's great for Zorn studies.

This palette is based off the work of Michael Lynn Adams Fine Art. For more info and the original color chart, please check his website. https://michaellynnadams.com/zorn-limited-palette/
