Ayla and Peppermint have been the best of friends, ever since 8-year-old Ayla found Peppermint as a tiny helpless orphaned baby stoat that wandered alone and into her backyard (her parents were killed by a hawk when they were teaching her how to hunt). Ayla was aware that she wasn't responsible enough to take care of a feral animal like a stoat, but her perspective with Peppermint told a different story.
