The stories of Hadrian and Antinous, as well as Julia Balbilla and Vibia Sabina, have inspired several pieces of mine, including a painting with very similar composition I plan to finish. The romantic story of a beautiful young lover, a powerful emperor, a poet, and a queen. Antinous remarking on the beauty of the nile is a peaceful sentiment, while foreboding his impending death.
