Twilight is pretty average, if a little shorter, for a unicorn. While still towering over Dash she is a head smaller than Rarity and really has to crane her neck to speak to Pinkie and AJ. Twilight is not very good at all of this right off the bat, so it takes a bit of training for them to fly around as eloquently as Celestia or Luna. Soon they become so well tuned with their magic and wings that floating around feels like genuine flying.
