Oh god, the last time I drew a reference sheet was 2021...
This is Daas, one of six main characters for a story I've been chipping away at for like 10 years. I recently got back into working on it, and it made me realize the characters need their refs updated. Their last redesign was in 2022, and while the designs are passable, I could definitely do better now. They were also drawn on a base, so the characters all had very similar body types and faces. Giving them distinct silhouettes is something I've been working on lately, and I would ideally like their refs to reflect that.
You can check the old designs on toyhouse, if you'd like context for the next part.
As for the redesign itself, Daas' design was my favorite out of them all and didn't really need many changes. Hence why I started with her. The only real issue was that the logic of her outfit made zero sense. Her design was low-key the first time I actually put effort into coming up with unique pieces of clothing rather than just putting the character into a shirt + pants combo, and that resulted in a lot of... bizzare choices. Like, 2/3 times I've drawn that design I had to add extra pieces so she wouldn't flash the camera. Not to mention how confusing it was for people who aren't me.
So, I changed the weird disk on her head to be an actual hat, turned the poncho into an off-the-shoulder bodysuit, got rid of the detached sleeves and retied her scarf. I also gave her a camera and changed some of the patterns. I think the fit's a lot better now, and hopefully clearer too.
