Amphipholis pugetana is a species of brittle star found on the Pacific west coast in shallow waters under the sediment! Closely related to the Amphipholis squamata, A. pugetana is sadly very understudied in scientific literature but is a really nifty species! Brittle stars are like sea stars but even COOLER if you can believe it, they brood young in their body, they have armored arms, and even have utilize bilateral movement despite pentaradial symmetry! Neat, right?

I presented on A. pugetana recently but photos were lacking so I drew one to scale with the hand to demonstrate its size. Unfortunately, however, I think its arms here may be shorter than they actually are. They have very long arms!
