- He/She/It/They
Age = Years > 30 | Creating cool and cute creatures!
I was radio silent on a lot of social media recently, and that was because...
I was moving from North America to Europe!
There are still a lot of hurdles to get over as far as establishing me as a permanent resident here, but we're well on our way. Worst case scenario, I still have a place to return to in the USA (but I'd really rather not if it can be helped) until we can get things sorted out.
For now I have some favorite bands to see and glüwein to drink! And German to learn...
Once I get more settled, expect art again!
I stole this, and I'm a bit too tired to do the digging it would take to find the original right now. Also the digging I did didn't turn up much. If anyone knows the original I'll gladly add credit!

My Art Fight page!
-
How many years have you participated?
Only 2 so far! I was a little late to the game.
-
Has your team ever won?
No. :')
-
What was your favorite past theme on AF?
I really liked Bloom vs. Wither when I participated. Sun vs. Moon and Magic vs. Tech also seemed really cool.
-
What team/theme are you hoping for this year?
Heart vs. Soul, Flora vs. Fauna, Fossils vs. Crystals all seem cool. It's not really a big deal to me because if the theme is seriously meh again I can just simply ignore it if I really want.
-
Do you do:
Friendly fires: Why not?
Revenges: This has been basically 100% what I have done to participate. :'D
Chains: Not yet. Actually don't know what that is lmao.
Know who you will attack first? I... have yet to initiate an attack. Probably some Nerd or something. -
What's your favorite thing to see in attacks against you?
I just like seeing my characters in other people's style. I also like fun experimental stuff. I know with my character permissions it may seem like I'm strict, but I'm really not. I just think clear guidelines are nice to have when I've done revenge so I provided that.
-
On a scale of 1 - 10, how much will you be participating this year?
Mmmmmaybe 5/10? I am moving overseas this year, so this isn't high on my priority list. I at least have a 100% revenge rate right now. I would love to draw your babies to knock off the rust. >:)
Bonus Past Revenge Pieces
For pupa.
For lilgreenfox.
Man, I haven't done shit like this in more than a decade. This is great!
Original was from from i-like-eyes on Tumblr (I yoinked that info from ducclord on this webbed site).
Weirdly Specific Artist Questions
- Art programs you have but don't use:
So many. Used to use OpenCanvas, but no longer, still have it though. MSPaint counts, especially because it has layers now, still don't use it. Used to have Gimp, but no more - didn't like that one anyway. Had Photoshop, also didn't like it. Mischief - vector just ain't my thing and it felt a bit clunky. FireAlpaca was not really a SAI replacement for me so it never stuck. Etc. etc. etc.
Sometimes the quest to find a program you like results in a lot of programs you don't quite like! I'd recommend anyone try any one of these. Maybe not Photoshop though. I hate Adobe's business practices.
- Is it easier to draw someone facing left or right (or forward even)?
Left. For whatever reason. I do not know why.
- Fav character/subject that's a pain to draw?
Translucent things, my beloved... they take so long to render... but they're so cool...
- Estimate of how much of your art you post online vs. the art you keep for yourself:
Used to post a lot more, now I do a lot of sketches that never see the internet... or the outside of Discord and Google Photos I guess. I also just draw less often than I used to. I also (somewhat infrequently) draw some material that feels a little too vulnerable to share with the world. I'd say I'm only posting 25% of what I draw across the board on all social media sites.
- A medium of art you don't work in but appreciate
OIL, I love the way it glows. I want to eat the paintings (affectionate). I'd love to set up space to work with it, but my life seems almost perpetually in transition at the moment.
- What's an old project idea that you've lost interest in?
My hard (ish) science fiction world called Parallax. I started it in high school and it's just not resonating with me the same way. It also suffers from a lot of decisions that high school me made that I'd love to rethink if I ever got back to doing anything with it.
- Favorite piece of clothing to draw:
Very 2010 deviantART of me, but scarves and ponchos are extremely fun. Anything baggy is just a treat for me.
- Do you listen to anything while drawing? If so, what?
Metal. :) At the moment I'm on a metal kick, and boy, I've had people tell me when I was younger that I would "grow out" of the harder rock/metal, but they were very wrong. I like harder stuff than I used to. My faves are still symphonic and folk metal though.
- Easiest part of body to draw:
Ironically, hands. I practiced them so much. Foreshortening still got hands though (pun intended).
- Any favorite motifs?
Glowing, complimentary colors, clothing folds, patterns (stripes and bands especially), and most obviously, monsters.
- Where do you draw? (Don't drop your IP address this just means do you doodle at a park or something).
At my desk at home, when I'm parallel playing with friends and family at my house or theirs, while I'm watching a movie I'm not super invested in on the couch, sometimes in meetings or classes once in a blue moon (used to draw all the time in class), and in airports.
- Something you are good at but don't really have fun doing:
Drawing from life. I don't find it artistically interesting, but I really would like to do more studies even though I find them less fulfilling.
- Do you eat/drink when drawing? If so, what?
In the morning, coffee (not often). I flavor my water so I'll have the flavored water while I draw (I do not drink plain water and this was the hack to not be a dehydrated creature). Sometimes if I am really into what I'm doing, I'll just eat dinner while I draw, if I even make dinner. Other than that I am a habitual snacker.
- Favorite inanimate objects to draw (food, nature, etc.):
Clothing. I really would like to do more still life stuff and practice backgrounds though. :'D
- Something everyone else finds hard to draw but you enjoy:
Arthropods are really cool! So many people fundamentally do not understand their anatomy which is a shame, but understandable.
- Art styles nothing like your own but you like anyways:
Sometimes graffiti is cool as fuck. I have no idea how people get it to look so good. Magic, as far as I can tell.
- Do you use different layer modes?
Yes. They're useful! Even if you don't end up using them, it's a good idea to familiarize yourself with them.
- Do your references include stock images?
On occasion. I do a lot of animal referencing for monster anatomy which have some stock photos but not a whole lot. I just remember having a hell of a time finding a decent ref for the underbelly of a mantis shrimp until a cooking video saved me.
- Do you warm up before getting to the good stuff? If so, what is it you draw to warm up with?
Well, it would be better practice to warm up (by just drawing shapes, nothing in particular), but... I do not have best artistic practice. :)
- Any art events you have participated in the past (like zines)?
A few original character tournaments... *stares into the middle distance*
- What piece of yours do you think is underrated?
I really like how this Creative Commons illustration turned out, but it definitely didn't get a lot of attention. Look at her! She's so happy!
I'm a 100% human artist from the USA living in Germany.
I have an associate in fine arts, some formal training outside of class for traditional media, and a lot of self-teaching for digital art. I mainly work digitally nowadays, but I am familiar with acrylic, colored pencil, and pen and ink/ink wash. I'm a little less familiar with oil, watercolor, and marker, though I'd like to set up a studio space for oil someday.
I like making high fantasy or science fiction worlds, conlangs, and speculative biology-based creatures. I'm currently working on a personal project world called Lux Arcana that I'd like to set an anthology in, and maybe some longer-form stories someday. Lux Arcana is still fairly early in the worldbuilding phase. I also play quite a bit of TTRPGs - Dungeons & Dragons 4th and 5th Edition, Pathfinder 1st Edition, and Call of Cthulhu among some other smaller systems. You might see some characters from games I've been in on here.
Thank you for checking out my work!
