Collin LiBee was woken up at 5:30 in the morning on Friday, July 19, 2024. One of his clients just informed him that all of their computers started blue screening all at once. He immediately got up, hastily dressed himself and ran out the door with his laptop. 20 minutes later, he arrived at the site to discover almost every computer displaying a blue screen of death. Shortly after powering on his laptop, his IM app started going crazy with pings.

It turns out, a software update for an application called CrowdStrike was published earlier that morning. It contained a faulty channel file that caused any computer it was installed on to instantly crash. Unfortunately, the bug wasn't discovered before it affected 8.5 million computers around the world.

Collin stood there for a moment in horror and thought to himself "Oh my God! This is going to be a long day."

OK, so it's been a hot minute since I've published a drawing. I've been very busy over the past couple of months with a trip to Europe and a project at work that has just left me feeling frustrated for the past few weeks. But seeing as the Holidays are coming up, I need to get my drawing hand back in order for Christmas related gift art. And I figured a good way to start would be to draw something based on a recent event in my life. Yes, I was involved in mitigating the damage from the recent CrowdStrike outage, and if you want to hear more about it, I've published my account of events on tumblr.
