Baard Thistleheart is a wandering adventurer and the reluctant dragonborn. He is a werewolf by blood and has sworn to hunt down his father and kill him for the transgression of passing his beast blood onto Baard.

Stubborn and easily annoyed, Baard does not get along well with others, struggling to fit in and understand others to the point of hating them. Due to his beast blood, Baard is a very defensive individual, always suspicious of those he crosses paths with, and any attempts at striking up a friendly relationship are swiftly rebuffed. To Baard, his freedom and autonomy come first; the needs of others are secondary to that. He fears that getting close to somebody (platonic or otherwise) will not only hinder that freedom but also ruin the façade of "normal" that he is so obsessed with maintaining. He knows that relationships are built on honesty and vulnerability, but he cannot bring himself to be that person. He doesn't want to lose control and hurt others.

Despite putting himself first, however, Baard still desperately wants to be seen as a "good" person, perhaps to make up for the inherent "sin" of being born cursed, or maybe because, especially as a werewolf, he always feels watched by a force greater than himself. He must constantly prove himself to be "normal" and "good". While he might complain about having to go out of his way to help others, he will still help, but not before coming up with an excuse other than kindness for doing so.
