I changed the belt in my vacuum today
I'm not sure if it works
I can see its chamber fill
A lone dust bunny spinning
But I remember days
When the dust would crackle
Through her insides
And the proud mechanical whir
Of her brush rolling on the carpet
But today a gust of wind
Pulls into a leak, somewhere
And though the chamber is full
So much has been left behind
A loose red thread sticks to the floor
Mocking the two of us
And I feel the ache in my wrist
The weight of my body
As I pluck the thread to toss
