saw this floating around and thought it was neat!
Art programs you have but don't use
I used to use Flipaclip and Procreate before my iPad died and I currently have Paint Tool Sai 1 + 2 and Fire Alpaca installed but i stopped using them in favour of using Krita instead!
Is it easier to draw someone facing left or right (or forward even)
i'd say forward but i'd be cheating since most face-on shots are for reference sheets and I use the symmetry tool for those!
so in the sake of fairness 3/4 view from either side is my go-to/comfort zone.
What ideas come from when you were little
depends on your definition of "little".
when I was a kid I didn't have ideas really? like I'd make characters but i don't have any of them left to show off
when I was 13 or 14 ish I made a mlp ask blog called "Ask Librarian Cherry Blossom" that was almost instantly deleted out of fear. i picked those characters back up the best I could in 2022/2023 but it was hard cause most of it is genuinely lost media
the only "idea" that has stuck around has been Tye and Gabe, 2 ocs I made back when I was 16 (?). They were promptly abandoned but then picked back up, redesigned, and had their story fleshed out in 2021 or 2022???
now they're some of my most beloved OCs and have a story being worked on for them!
Fav character/subject that's a bitch to draw
Horses probably. like I love them, was a real mlp guy back in the day but realistic horses???
fuck that, their spindly lil legs are so hard to draw. it's a shame though cause they're one of my fav animals
(extra sucks that i have a shot in a pmv I'm working on that has 2 horses in a weird perspective angle. evil shit)
Estimate of how much of your art you post online vs. the art you keep for yourself
ehhh... 80-20 online vs offline. I share most of my wips with my friends on Discord but there's a tone more that never sees the light of day.
Anything that might inspire you subconsciously (e.g. this horse wasn't supposed to look like the Last Unicorn but I see it)
literally anything I watch or read, I'm incredibly impressionable apparently.
like I was working on the lizardmen for Time and Again and went "Hey wait a minute... these are just the lizard minotaurs from Centaur World!!!"
still keep them though cause i love them...
A medium of art you don't work in but appreciate
water colour for sure. I tried working with it and I liked it but nothing I made was half as good as some of the stuff I've seen so I stopped. shit is not easy.
I also love wood carving and papercraft. both things I'd love to try one day but for right now I'm happy just looking
What's an old project idea that you've lost interest in
oh god, there's so many...
Tethered together - old Stanley Parable fic i never finished
Red dahlias for love and betrays - another old Stanley Parable fic but hanahaki disease-flavoured
Strange Souls - original story of mine that has taken a major back seat
Literally all of the animatic wips I have (there are too many to list)
What are your file name conventions
ha. haha hahaha file name conventions. good one /j
serious answer: I don't name my ART files very well but I try to label my Libre Office files correctly because each chapter is its own doc and if they get disorganized it's a nightmare to sort them in the master file.
Usually, each new chapter is: {(Work Acronym)_(Chapter number) - (Chapter Title if applicable)}
Ex. Lost and Found's Chapter 1 "A Streak of White Lightning" would become LaF_01 - A Streak of White Lightning
Favorite piece of clothing to draw
sweaters.
hoodies, turtle necks, pullovers, you name it my character is wearing it. the only shirt I can draw reliably
Do you listen to anything while drawing? If so, what
any mix of things! Random music, specifically curated playlists, 3-10hr long video essays, comfort shows I don't need the visuals on to understand
Easiest part of body to draw
Eyes probably? Oh and hair!
The only problem with them being easy is I have a hard time making them different. I have hairstyles I know like the back of my hand but others I will struggle with, y'know?
A creator who you admire but whose work isn't your thing
Genuinely hard one cause if I'm following someone I'm usually into their work y'know??? Like I can't think of a single creator I like whose work I DON'T like.
Any favorite motifs
In general? Puppet, worship + devotion (vaguely religious stuff)
In my own work? idk? I haven't really noticed a motif in my stuff I guess?
Where do you draw (don't drop your ip address this just means do you doodle at a park or smth)
I have a recliner set up in front of a decently big TV with my laptop HDMI wired to it. It's like a big computer monitor lol
Something you are good at but don't really have fun doing
Hmm... The thing is if I don't enjoy it I won't do it so often I don't have the chance to get good at it.
Like I stopped doing lineart for a while because I hated it.
I do line art again, still hate it, but I wouldn't say I'm good at it????
Do you eat/drink when drawing? if so, what
Depends on the time of day I'm drawing. I often eat full meals at my computer while working on something.
Though my most frequent thing is some sort of decaf coffee.
An estimate of how much art supplies you've broken
OH GOD. Idfk the amount of traditional tools but I have at least 2 apple pencils that were broken and one lost, my iPad no longer charges, and the countless wacom nibs I've worn down to nothing is a feat.
Favorite inanimate objects to draw (food, nature, etc.)
Oof... I kind of hate drawing inanimate objects? I guess blankets? I love making a character all cozy.
Something everyone else finds hard to draw but you enjoy
expressions maybe? Like they're still hard for me but i love learning to make my characters express!
Art styles nothing like your own but you like anyways
Stained glass for SURE! Anything with sharp angles or lots of points too! Especially if it's used in dynamic posing. I love that shit!
What physical exercises do you do before drawing, if any
... next question. /j
seriously though I really need to start doing exercises. I've been having tendonitis flare-ups in my wrist again and I'm like 90% percent sure I'm a bad art session away from getting legit carpal tunnel.
Wrist exercises are no joke kids, take this from a man who fucked his wrist working fast food and it's still bothering him almost 6 years later.
Do you use different layer modes
Oh absolutely!
Usually, it's Multiply for shading, Luminosity for highlights, overlays for extra filters and colours, screen for glass reflection and eye shines etc.
Do your references include stock images
Yes!!
Most of my refs are stock images I find off Google by searching "person doing x pose from y direction"
Something your art has been compared to that you were NOT inspired by
I don't think my art has actually been compared to something before? Atleast, no one's said anything!
What's a piece that got a wildly different interpretation from what you intended
Also never happened lol!
Actually? I guess one commenter on Red Dahlias for Love and Betrayal said something about the flowers growing after Stanley buried the coughed-up petals.
That wasn't what I was going for at the time but after they said that my brain went "Wait that's such a good idea... I will simply pretend that's what I was setting up..."
Do you warm up before getting to the good stuff? If so, what is it you draw to warm up with
I don't.
I don't have the patience really. I really SHOULD, I know how beneficial it is but often my ADHD won't let me because if i don't get the idea down immediately I'll forget.
Any art events you have participated in the past (like zines)
Been attempting Ink/Gore/Witch Tober since high school but I've never finished one. I participated in a Baldur's Gate 3 29 prompt fanfic challenge on AO3 and Tumblr in February which I ALSO didn't finish. I also tried NaNoWriMo last year but didn't make it past day 2 or so cause i got sick and couldn't make pace after
the only event I participate in with consistent quality is Art Fight lmao
Media you love, but doesn't inspire you artistically
again, almost everything I love has some influence
I guess any of the live-action shows I watch? like I love Grey's Anatomy but i wouldn't say it inspires me artistically?????
What piece of yours do you think is underrated
I mean, probably most of them? I'm not a very popular artist/have a high following so a lot of my stuff doesn't get seen.
I guess Time and Again?????
There are only 3 chapters out but its got like 26 hits and 4 kudos on AO3 compared to my highest viewed fic that's sitting pretty at 2,877 hits and 45 Kudos which still isn't A LOT compared to others but it's a lot for ME lmao
