The Barn owl (Tyto alba), as the name suggests, is an cosmopolitan species that nest in barns and other quiet structures and are quite competent with human presence. They'll live just about anywhere with open landscape, from grasslands, marshes to county farmland areas to aid their silent hunting. They benefit farmers by keeping the populations of mice, rats and other rodents in check using their exceptional hearing and buoyant but noiseless flight. Their light brown and white feathering aid them in their hunting by providing both camouflage in low light and minimizing sound during flight, allowing the owl to swoop amongst its prey quietly.
