The caracal is a medium-sized wild cat native to the grasslands, shrublands and semi-deserts of Africa, the Middle East, Central Asia, and India. It is known for its distinctive tufted ears, sleek build, and strong legs, which make it an excellent jumper. Caracals have a reddish-brown coat, and they are solitary and territorial animals. They are primarily nocturnal hunters, preying on birds, small mammals, and rodents. Despite being Least Concern on the IUCN, caracal cats are rarely seen in their natural environment.
