The Dingo is a wild dog found in Australia, and it is believed to have descended from dogs brought to Australia by early Aboriginal settlers from Southeast Asia. Its classification is still pretty debated, with some considering the Dingo a subspecies of wolf (Canis lupus dingo), an entire separate species (Canis dingo), or simply a breed of feral domestic dog. One of the biggest threats to the Dingo's survival is the hybridization with domestic dogs, which is compromising their genetic diversity: however, the Dingo population of Fraser Island seems to have very low levels of crossbreeding and are therefore considered one of the last remaining groups of "pure" dingoes! Some domestic dogs, such as the Australian cattle dog have Dingo within their ancestry.
