my nextgen takes place 10 years after twilight's school of friendship is opened. i headcanon the show's finale takes place 25 years after it opens. the mane 6 are all in their mid twenties when the show starts, some already have kids and had more over the course of 9 years of the show. meaning multiple kids are already adults and finding partners of their own. the youngest kid i have designed is a preteen; rarijack's two not designed kids would be around 10 and probably the youngest of the nextgen.
the cmc and other foals in the show would be older teenagers, no longer minors, or just under 20 in this au. if you have ideas for pairings for any younger characters, please leave suggestions!
since i've changed some ponies species, their backstories and families are different too. how the mane 6 got their cutiemarks is slightly different since RD is an earth pony but the 'storyline' is basically the same; RD just ran in a race instead of flew in a race. fluttershy was still bullied out of cloudsdale and found her calling in the woods with the animals.
older generations of ponies will be included in family trees! various ponies have relations to g1, g1.5 and g3 characters. example: pinkie pie's great great grandma is G1 Surprise, her great aunt is G1.5 Bon Bon, and her grandma is G3 Pinkie Pie
