ah...Sunset Crater my beloved. The ONE place I want to visit one day so bad.
The Arizonan volcanoes are my favorite volcanoes ever, all of them are extinct cinder cones (so they only erupt once) or eroded stratovolcanoes (like the San Francisco Peaks), standing ghosts of what they once were. However, they aren't a volcanic arc like the Cascades in the PNW, but rather form from a hot spot volcanic field. The San Francisco volcanic field in NE Arizona is suspected to be still active as Sunset Crater was only formed close to 1000 years ago (which means it's still young in geology terms) and the Sinagua people have witnessed their eruption.
BTW to those new to my presence, I cannot stop drawing this thang. You will occasionally find San Fran volcanic field volcanoes in my art, especially Sunset Crater and the San Fran Peaks. Uhh fun fact? Uranium Rush takes place near Flagstaff, so these volcanoes have a strong presence in the setting.
