the courtship of edelweiss and ottone is uncommon in the way it played out. generally, the long lifespan of unicorns and the arduous career of necromancy means that they usually marry later in life and are not quick to reproduce. when ottones studies with eubora take him to the north, the two are housed by a clan of necromancers living in the ancient schloss hennenberg. in much the same way orchidee and cybele take to one another through continued proximity, the stern and aloof ottone develops a rapport with one of the hennenberg daughters, a sullen girl who lacks ability and ambition, but who possesses enough prestige to make up for it. edelweiss does not require much coaxing to leave the schloss with ottone, and believes that lafossa will mean freedom and respect for her. both value what the other can give them more than any romantic investment, but in this regard they are ordinary - necromancers shun sentimentality, as detachment allows them to resurrect the dead without incident. the lack of any grand romance between them is perhaps why ottone was reanimated as a choleric wanpyr and not a carnal one
so, orchidee is born to two parents who are not interested in entertaining her. edelweiss has a great disdain for motherhood, and her dislike for the squalling, needy infant only turns into critical micromanaging when orchidee grows older. ottone sees orchidee as an investment in the familys future, as anyone of his stature would. there is no societal expectation that he dote upon her in any way. i think ottone also didnt live long enough for this interaction to have happened canonically, but i wanted to draw it anyway. in reality, orchidee doesnt remember ottone at all
theres no way orchidee is going to be effected by this upbringing
