There is a difference between Modern Classic Sonic and how Sonic used to be in the 90's. Not just in games, but tv and movies too. It seems like Sega today is trying to make Sonic cute to sell merch. (Keeping Modern Classic Sonic silent instead of hiring Jaleel White was a bad move too. Jaleel White gave Sonic an actual personality.) I kinda prefer the way he looks on the Genesis covers designed by Greg Martin with the mohawk. Archie and the cartoons did it too. It wasn't just a look either, it was the attitude that went with it. Sonic was cool without having to act like a total jerk, one of the reasons I could never get into the Fleetway comics. Fleetway did better with other Sega IPs than with Sonic in my opinion. At least they bothered with other Sega IPs. Archie just focused on Sonic. Meanwhile in Japan there was this dumb manga about a kid turning into Sonic named Richard or Ricky or whatever. It was so stupid. Japan got it right with the Sonic OVA even though it was short lived. That to me is the essence of what makes Sonic cool. Gleeby agrees.
