Ivan is a member of the Malleodon species employed by the Theian 3^rd Tunneling Corps as an asset used to assist with the creation and maintenance of subterranean engineering projects in the mountainous regions of eastern Theia. He is one of a handful of his kind willingly cooperating with the human-dominant military corps in the area, with others sparsely inhabiting the mountains nearby.

Kladivitus malleodon, the Theian Mountain Hammertail, is a very large bipedal therapsid species known for supplementing their omnivorous diets with iron-rich minerals extracted from the tunnels they carve out as nests. Often weighing in at well over 1,000kg, the minerals they consume accrue in the armor-like plates that cover their backside and undersides. Though bulky and relatively slow, they are capable of rolling up into a rough wheel-like configuration which allows them to barrel down the mountainside as if they were a boulder in a rockfall, with the same speed and destructive effect.

Their skin is extremely callous and tough, but deceivingly flexible. Though somewhat normal-looking, their claws contain traces of silicate minerals and metals which harden to an extent beyond that of most native rock outcrops.

Males tend to be larger, while females lack the spiked nose-plate present on the males. Both have equally impressive hammers at the end of their tails featuring hematite-infused spikes resembling morning stars.
