I finally finished a reference sheet for the god, Atum. I have attempted other reference sheets for him before, but have never really gotten around to finishing them before.
This is Set and Osiris / Ra's father in my fan fiction for Sphinx and the Cursed Mummy, called Sphinx: Broken Destiny. He's sort of a mix between Atum, Amun Ra, Amun, Ptah and Nefertem (all of which are either gods of creation in egyptian mythology, or are adjacent to creation gods).
Sphinx never really followed the egyptian mythos properly (I mean for some reason Set and Osiris are two halves of Ra and are the gods of good / light, and evil / darkness...) so Broken Destiny doesn't stick to the mythology accurately either. However, I still wanted to reflect some of the actual mythology within the design itself.
For example, the body of Atum is elongated and snake-like as Atum sometimes was depicted as a cobra with a feather on their tail / back. The feathers on Atum's tail are representations of that idea as well, however they also call back to the shape of the egyptian lotus, referring to the god Nefertem who often was depicted with a lotus on his crown. The goat-like legs, head-shape and horns are inspired by depictions of Amun / Amun Ra and Ra, who often were depicted as rams, ram headed men, or ram headed sphinx. Finally, the bird-like talons, wings and head are inspired by depictions of the god Ra, who other than his ram depictions, would also be depicted as a falcon, falcon headed man, or falcon headed sphinx. The whole design is sphinx-like as a whole also to refer to these various gods as most had some sort of sphinx form.
