Dead early in the morning on my way to my internship, I received news that my uncle died. He was one of several people who had raised me. He was fighting cancer for the last several years, and the last time i had seen him, he hugged me for the first and last time since i was a toddler. I had to work as usual without an opportunity to process it. When I got home at dusk i just sat down and... made this.
These are my Sky OCs Myos and Favon. In-game, translucent blue is used for the dead spirits, and relieving their memories is part of the gameplay loop. Sometimes these can get quite buggy. Myos is a character who experiences various bugs in-story, much to his chagrin. In this case, he somehow got a spirit memory of his late friend, showing him around the first area back when he was still a moth. Her hand is stuck in a clasped gesture, holding on to nothing.
I wanted this to be a comic originally, but fine lineart wasn't my strong suite during this time. Myos would've reached out to Favon, before the "quest" would seemingly finish, and he would be left all alone once again.
I used a lot of Artemus pencil for the clouds and highlights, and used CSP's default watercolor brush for blending it into the background. Using an off-white for the brightest parts of the background gave it a soft look, while using pure white on Favon made her look more holographic. Likewise, the yellowish off-white against the dark blue helped keep the color palette from being too chromatic.
