In 1993, Wallace and Gromit: The Wrong Trousers was released.
In the same year, the American nu metal band Korn formed.
In The Wrong Trousers, there is a shot of Gromit eating cornflakes, frustrated and exhausted from being kept up all night by the ominous new lodger, Feathers McGraw loudly playing music.
Look at the left side of this shot:
This is hard to believe, but it is true.
Korn aren't actually from Bakersfield, California in the USA at all.
...They were from Wigan, Lancashire in England!!
Okay now that this place is back, I may as well update this???
BASICS:
Name/nickname: SupermarketCordyceps (my main pen-name for my art and comics)/Super/Soops/Soober/Pepper/CambrianBeast/Cambrian
Gender: Agender
Pronouns: They/them
Age: Later 20s.
Location: An earth located under an abandoned McDonald’s drive-through, with an opening near a ditch full of broken fairy lights
Fun fact(s):
*I am an otherkin! Specifically a hybrid foxkin (melanistic/silver or black morph red fox, Vulpes vulpes) and arthropod/bugkin various arthopods (mostly terrestrial insect and arachnid orders, as well as centipedes, especially Scutigeromorphs). I feel a deep affinity towards foxes and bugs, and have done for my entire existence.
*When I was a tiny larva, I had a lot of nightmares about claymation characters doing things to mildly inconvenience me and taunt me in the process; I found these nightmares very upsetting and I really liked watching a bootleg Aardman compilation my parents had on VHS back then, so maybe that's why??
Hobbies/interests: Entomology (Coleoptera, Neuroptera, Lepidoptera, Blattodea and Zygentoma being among my favourite insect orders!), foxes, fossils, virtual pet toys and games, marine biology, folklore, Branchiopods, overlooked or indie animated movies, plushes (foxes have always been my favourite to collect :3), raising invertebrates in captivity, collecting animal bones, obsolete media formats, mycology, natural history (the Cambrian period is a major special interest of mine! <3), anthropology, ichthyology and microbiology.
Dream job: Hm...I mean aside from making my art and comics as they are now with no strings attached, maybe something to do with entomology if I were able!
ART
Favorite medium: India ink (using dip pens and brushes) and watercolour and gouache paints too. Oh, and heavy watercolour paper, can't forget that now!! Also even though I prefer working traditionally as a personal preference, I do like MS Paint a lot too (Windows XP version is the best in my humble opinion!!)
Favorite subject: The Vulpini tribe of the Canidae mammal family (both the True Foxes and other basal vulpines like raccoon dogs), various bugs/arthropods, monsters, ethereal beings, and the landscapes they all inhabit, like forests, meadows and abandoned, overgrown human dwellings.
Favorite artists/inspirations: Jim Woodring, Shigeru Mizuki, Tove Jansson, Louis Wain, Hieronymus Bosch, SplendidLand, Lyle Partridge, Gerald Scarfe, Bowelfly, Hideshi Hino, Bruegel the Elder, Erin Roseberry, Wally Fawkes, Cornelis Saftleven, Joe MacGown, Sjofisk, Bogleech, Tony Millionaire, Ken Johnson and Everett Peck.
Favorite period of art: I'm not entirely sure, but whomever the human was to be the first to draw an arthropod of any variety was clearly amazing!!
Piece you are most proud of: Of the ones I have here, this one I still like a lot!!
How long have you been creating: Since I was about 4-5 years old, back then I did a lot of drawings of Crash Bandicoot and Spyro the Dragon characters and also "screenshots" of a non-existent video game about dogs and cats battling in submarines I kept fixating on the idea of for some reason. I got more passionate about drawing at age 11-12 though, and aside from a period where I masked and didn't make the art I wanted to out of fear of ridicule, I've been making art of bugs, foxes and monsters ever since!!
How you learned: Lots of practice and trial and error. I went to some community college art classes as a teenager which helped a little but mostly just self-teaching I guess!!
How long it usually takes you to make something: I don't know, that's kinda like asking how many legs a centipede has (aka it varies greatly!!)
The big project you haven't gotten around to yet: I am working on a webcomic, the same one I mentioned preparing for last time I filled out this meme here two years ago in fact! It is a longer term comic project titled God Animal, and is a post-apocalyptic story set in an alternate 2003, about a pair of close fox friends who meet an unusual but friendly monstrous deity-like being whilst on the run from a mysterious swarming presence that is devouring the world. It's a very personal project with a number of characters I've been drawing for many years over a number of successive forms! I have a lot of work ahead of me with it (as I only completed Episode 1 just before 2023 ended) but i'm genuinely excited to tell the story!! :3
Not tagging anyone, unless you want to do it I guess!! I'm just a bugfox I won't tell you what to do!!!
