The L8R probe in these types of rooms take the briarfly before Everett does, so he'll have to chase them before they fly away. As the game progresses, they also surround themselves with IVUL units to protect them which makes it harder to engage directly (I wound up hitting it with Everett instead of the crate anyway because I'm bad).
