I'm pretty sure Amy was more used to living in the city before meeting Sonic, Tails, and Knuckles. As well as the fact that the boys grew up in the wild and are very familiar with looking for food for themselves.

Amy knows better now though, and teaches Cream about wildlife and plants when they're camping. :)
