It often happened in my headcanons that the Fierce Deity faced Demise in the name of Hylia or simply because Demise was trying to corrupt him and to turn him against the gods above (Golden Goddesses and such). Fortunately he never succeeded, but even Fierce could have huge troubles during these kind of fights (you do not want to ruin the whole land while releasing your rage).

The gods loyal to Hylia and the Golden Goddesses have strict rules to respect when they intervene in the mortal world, like the fact that they musn't use their full potential and heavenly form, in order to spare a serious accident on the balance or massive destruction around. Alas Demise doesn't care AT ALL, which lead to very difficult situations most of the time.
