Xray is a hardened soldier that opened his mind thanks to an important event that led to other events that changed his helljumper life, previously seen as the same harsh, cocky and brash stereotype his group was seen as, his unique experiences mellowed him a little, now being more compehensive, although a bit overprotective, as some of his younger friends may say.

In short, he comes from Arcadia, one of the Unified Earth Goverment's colonies, son of a farmer marriage, joined the UNSCs Marine Corps much to his father's chagrin, befriended an- ODST called Alessio Barnes, had a knack for prying into Office of Naval Intelligence classified files, which is how he found out about Arcadia's second glassing and thus, his parents deaths, which prompted him to join the ODST's as a demolitions specialist and shed any ounce of sympathy he ever had for the Covenant, he participated in Concord, Fumirole, was a temporary P.O.W. in New Jerusalem, and finally he participated in an ill-fated operation in New Mombasa while the events of Halo 2 and by extent Spartan Strike were taking place, the forerunner artifact teleported him and his squad to different dimensions, him being teleported to a "dimension between dimensions" where an old man left him in charge of everything and thus began his short-lived Dr Who-esque adventures, where he met Nita, a Zoroark and OC of one of my friends, and helped her rescue her son
