- She/Her
I'm just a silly little goober and a professional dumbass who likes to draw bad art and post it online. I also have a pet axolotl named Fred.
I've always been an artist, from the very moment when I learned how to pick up a crayon. Everyone around me used to encourage me to make art. My legal guardians at the time weren't particularly happy when I used to scribble what happened in my dreams on my bedroom walls, or even when I attempted to invent a multicoloured rainbow crayon by melting them off of the radiator and smooshing the melted wax together. No, that wouldn't do. So in order to encourage my creativity without destroying the entire house, they bought me multiple colouring books and blank sheets of printer paper for me to deface instead.
Now, I have always had a love/hate relationship with art, I still do, even to this very day. I either spend the majority of my time drawing something, or becoming so uninspired that I don't draw anything at all for days, maybe even weeks. There is no in-between.
When I was around the age of 14 or 15, a friend of mine used to draw/trace these really cute characters in a very specific style, and at the time it wasn't even mainstream where I live. But I soon discovered it would be the genre that would forever shape the future of my art: Anime. I didn't even know what anime was back then, or how it differentiated from other cartoons. I asked my older brother about it. i showed him a picture I printed out in school from a show called "Mew Mew Power" and I told him that I wanted to draw these characters and create my own versions of them too. I recall him telling me that the name of the style is known as anime, and that anime is pretty much just Japanese animations, and he also told me about their comic book equivalent, manga. And from that moment on, I was hooked.
I dedicated hours of my days practicing drawing in that cutesy mahou shoujo style. In school, I would print out pictures of characters from the anime that inspired me from the beginning: Tokyo Mew Mew/Mew Mew Power. I would draw Ichigo and Zakuro in outfits I designed for them myself, or in their mew mew forms. I even made my own OC for the show, Mew Cherri, whose DNA was infused with the DNA of an arctic fox.
Fast forward to when I finally gained access to the internet at age of 17, back in 2011. This was a huuuge milestone for me, as that was the year that I made my very first account on DeviantArt. Although my skills had improved over the last two or so years, when I saw what people were capable of creating on here, I felt jealous and unmotivated. How do they draw so perfectly? At first, I used to send them nice comments, telling them how amazing I thought their art was and how I hoped to get to their level some day. But things took a turn, especially as I was going through a really tough time. I stopped drawing for a while in around 2012, and didn't draw again for a whole year, even going as far as deactivating my very first DA account.
But then, on Friday the 13th of December 2013, I made my main DA account (I have had many different aliases through the years, because I can never pick a name that I am permanently satisfied with). My first uploads here were terrible, you'd never think that I was the same person who used to draw like that. I still have some of my old art here: https://sta.sh/229kfwl48wqp
I just feel the need to say that as much as I think I hate art sometimes, the reality is that whenever I don't draw for a while, it feels as though a piece of me is missing. A very important part. And even though I suffer from unmotivation, burnout and artblock...I always and forever will be drawn to art. I yearn for it, even when I don't feel like drawing. It's a part of who I am, and who I am is an artist who holds powers that a lot of non-artsy people cannot comprehend. I can and I will draw you pregnant if you piss me off enough. (That was a joke, by the way. I wouldn't actually do that XD).
My Bongo Cat piece got a place in the spotlight! Thank you so much!!! This means a lot to me, thank you!
