The planet that stray stars takes place in is called Drynich. Dragons are a rather reclusive society that bars most other races from their inner cities. These locations often have magical secrets and even portals to a pocket dimension dragons have been creating and cultivating for living purposes for millennia.
GUILDS
One may not fathom the thought that joining a guild was a particularly optional endeavor; While for other young hatchlings, this process is part of growing up within a dragon society. Once a dragon hatchling starts to develop their abilities and skills, they are pushed to make the choice of which guild and in turn, what career they wish to join. For such young creatures, this choice may be difficult, but with patience and guidance the adolescents are still expected to make that choice.
The process from egg to adolescents takes around 17 years; While there are ways to go back and forth between guilds by the time the young creature makes their choice, the elders expect them to keep it and wear their guild as a sign of adulthood on their crests. In the rare events that a dragon is not fit for it's guild, there is paperwork to file and sign set about by peacemaker guilds who are skilled in that craft. When paperwork is complete, that dragon will find itself at the bottom of the ranking.
NURSERIES
Nurseries are the facilities used to raise dragons from egg to adolescents.
Nursery dragons, despite their origins, are actually a Valor guard position. These dragons are looked down on by some dragons within guilds, their position may seem as if they could not make a choice to serve a guild and in term, are deemed unaffiliated. For others, nursery dragons are looked at for what they do for the guilds.
Nursery dragons are there for the protection of those eggs, and they will protect the unborn and young with their lives. These dragons are tasked with protection, upbringing and basic education, needing to be patient and in a sense, an ace of all trades. There are a few different types of caregivers in this faction that have different positions and jobs, such as egg keepers, nannies and guardians. However all are required to make sure the children under their care are able to perform the skills of reading, writing, and mathematics and finances, as well as understanding the history of the dragon society.
Egg keepers
The first type of care takers are the egg keepers. These dragons are normally a mix of very old or very young dragons. It is the first position in caretaking for dragons that choose to stay in the nurseries. The first job is to make sure that the eggs are fertile and will result in a hatchling. Mostly older dragons handle this job as young dragons can be a bit clumsy, excitable, and reckless. Often being given unfertilized eggs to handle so they can learn their fragility.
Fertile dragon eggs can sit for a long amount of time, normally up to 6 years and someone must make sure they are protected. As a result it is a great first job for many young dragons. Normally, they are only tasked with the job of protecting and scoping out the many underground caverns that make up the egg champers. Chasing down any type of pest and keeping watch over anyone that enters.
Nannies
The second type of caretakers are nannies. These dragons care for the dragons of the youngest age. Normally consisting of 2 - 3 nannies per set of hatchlings. These sets can be as large as 12 individuals. The Nannies are in charge of determining the element class of each dragon in their charge, keeping up with their sizes and weights, monitoring their growth, detecting medical anomalies, disciplining the dragons and understanding their learning styles, and the protection of the hatchlings. They also start pushing the hatchlings to start thinking about guilds.
Hatchlings are expected to be able to perform basic speech, reading, writing, and mathematics before they are given to the guardians. If they have mental deformities and deficiencies and are unable to perform, they are given to Academicians or Dreamweavers for advanced care.
Guardians
Guardians tend to be the 3rd type of caretaker on the ladder of the dragons' life. These dragons tend to be in their prime as to keep up with the scores of children they are in charge of. Their job is teaching them the more advanced stages of their basic education and then helping them find interests and hobbies through the course of various activities and games. Most guardians themselves have a preference in activity types, in which more groups of children with those preferences are sent to them.
They normally mark down the skills that the dragons are developing and and progress from there. They will have their groups for 1 year at a time before the kids are rearranged. This is used to help the children get used to different types of faces and abilities. However as they get closer to adolescence they are put with guardians that have similar specialties as their interests to help prepare them for their next stage.
Field mentors
These dragons are often from the guilds themselves, sometimes veterans, sometimes young dragons wanting to expand their reputation. These dragons bring activities, seminars, shows, and challenges from their guilds to expose children to tasks that might be performed when they grow large enough to join. Normally they are kept on the exciting or interesting end. Normally, making the kids stay for the first half.
The field mentors usually give more time to the kids that stay to help teach them small tricks for the guild they represent. This helps push them towards choosing the guild and using resources to become better at the things they want to learn.
😀Guilds
Dream weavers- these dragons practice more than just dream creation and protection in the dragon worlds. They monitor the psyche of many dragons and are often in charge or rehabilitation and care of the mental health of dragons. Prophecies and special traits can be uncovered when a dream weaver is assigned to someone.
Academians- these dragons create magical tools often classified as artifacts/relics to help the lives of dragons and sometimes outsiders. The guild is very selective of who they take in. The dragons have to be able to go above and beyond here. They must be able to study, apply, and sometimes invent. These dragons expand the dragon pocket dimension and create space for other guilds to expand. They also occupy the medical facilities as healing magic is quite useful in taking care of injured dragons from accidents. Most can learn a certain degree of healing magic early.
Valor Guard- they function as police and government. They work through the paperwork of all the registered dragons and have to keep up with the dragons that decide to leave the pocket dimensions. For this reason theses dragons get some education on the outside world so they know how to respond to locals of those locations. Guards while they fight and train, don’t often seen much action, most dragons are strictly educated. In the situation of an a wall dragon, the work together to track, capture, and transport them. They side in politics, debate, and the more governmental functions of the dragon pockets. There is a lot of paperwork here
Tradesmiths- The general's guild, Smiths may seem a bit less specialized than the other guilds but dragons here have a vast amount of talents. The structures of the worlds are often built by this class. Some specialize in the arts, cooking, teaching, and marketing and sales. Dragons here tend to pick a hobby and focus on making it useful in the worlds. While the dragons don't really sell or buy from each-other inside of their guilds, they are quite happy to trade and work together to take care of each other.
Wildforgers- these dragons are in charge of taking care and influencing the fauna and flora in the dragon pocket dimensions. They specialize in matters of biology, Herbalism, herding, survival, bits of agriculture, and taking care of life and sometimes ending it, if a creature gets too dangerous. These dragons are often sent out of the dragon pockets to study and bring back more specimens for research and examination. They also specialize in exploring new environments or dungeoneering, they tend to be very curious.
Outcast- This is not a guild it's a punishment. Those put into this category have normally left the dragon society and live in the more unforgiving wilds. They are without guild. These dragons are often criminals that have left the society due to encroaching valor guard. Having to fight monsters and more vicious dragons for lands that the valor guard finds to hostile to traverse to continue the pursuit. In losing the comforts of life these dragons gain power if they manage to survive the locations they call home. Normally growing bigger and more aggressive than the common dragon.
