I thought I would remake this little journal about my ocs, so I could have them in one place and write as much as I feel like. It's probably going to be very long and messy, sorry for that. I tried to separate everything so it's more manageable and easy to skip
Extra bits are under the spoilers (ᵕ—ᴗ—) ocs that share the same emoji in their descriptions are from the same story
Please note that some might still miss images because I need to make more drawings or I haven't took photos of them yet
"Missing tapes" is a story set in the 90s, and is about Harriet, who after moving out to a new town with her mom following her father's death, discovers the existence of sentient objects who live seeming unnoticed among humans. She later in life decides to uncover what happened to her dad with the help of the tape recording and notes left by him.
| Harriet, she/her, 17, 1,64 (5'5")
· · ─────── · 📼 · ─────── · ·
Harriet discovered the existence of "sentient objects" (a name she came up herself, she doesn't know what they are actually called, or what they really are) after she and her mom moved to a different town following her father's death. She became fascinated by them and likes helping them whenever she finds one. Harriet is very sensitive to their presence, like a strange feeling she always had that she couldn't explain, which made her good at spotting them.
She discovered one as a child when she got curious about an old abandoned house in the neighborhood that everyone considered "haunted", and found it mostly empty with missing furniture and an old TV. She thought it was lonely so she promised to visit it whenever she could and even bring some tapes that belonged to her dad so they could watch something together. After some times they became friends and later she convinced her mom to let him stay in their house (their TV was broken anyway), and Koda as soon she found out about them. She treats them both like part of her family and someone she can fully trust.
Overall Harriet is very observant and is interested in anything paranormal, local ghost stories, collecting magazines centered around old tech etc. She also often find it's hard to interact with other people, but she tries her best. Her wish is to become a photojournalist like her dad used to be, but she's worried she lacks charisma, and her long time goal is to figure out what really happened to him because all the information don't add up or are missing.

⟡ wears a lot of 90s and 80s fashion
⟡ she has a few big birthmarks on her face and on her body, she usually feels insecure about them around others
⟡ average body type (with belly fat and stuff, so please don't draw her skinny)
⟡ the hairband can be any color/pattern (her preferred ones are green, blue or colorful)
⟡ her hair naturally straight but she likes to curl them
The character next to her is her objectsona, as a bonus :3 and it's not an a actual character in the story. Harriet spends a lot of time with objects, so it makes sense that she would at one point imagine herself as one and fantasize about it. Uses she/they and is based on Polaroid 600 round camera, one she actually owns :D

Newspaper editor and Harriet's mom. Left the bustling city after her husband's sudden death (something she still haven't recovered from) to start fresh. She was never into love or the romance, but she developed a feeling to him after they had a chance to work together. She never remarried after it and actually really happy as is. Would make the world burn just to have him back though
Patricia loves her daughter and cares about her a lot, but because of her job she doesn't always have time to spend with her, but she will always find a way to make up for it. She is always the first person Harriet asks for information that are either hard to find or inaccessible, and she's glad to help (within reasons)
At first she was very apprehensive about the idea of having objects living in her home, but got quickly used to it and appreciates their existence, especially Winston since he helps around the house and can she always vent her personal worries to him without burdening Harriet with it

He/they/it
around 2,21 (7'3")
A TV/VCR combo that used to live in an old house abandoned by its previous owners. He used to scare off any human that even dared to break into it, with the only exception being a child that used sneak up to see him from time to time (the first human he had ever seen up close), and allowed her to play there as long as she wouldn't get in trouble. The house was eventually sold off, and he was moved out with the rest of the furniture to an auction house, where he met Koda. Since he had no place to stay, the girl convinced her mom to keep them both and they have been living with them ever since.
Because of him living in complete solitude for the first few years and the house having no signal (or electricity), Winston is way more "tame" compared to usual TV objects, and still has a habit of not talking for long periods of time, but that doesn't mean he can't be scary and take advantage of it.
He enjoys films and owns an impressive VHS collection that was left by Harriet's dad since Patricia didn't have the heart to throw it all out (a lot of older films, series, family tapes and some recordings left from his work)

⟡ his preferred things to display is a static noise with a darker stripe in the direction looking at (it can change width and direction), or a blue VCR screen (he can also display anything a normal TV would)
⟡ his screen isn't centered, it's slightly higher so that the bottom part can fit his VCR (do as many buttons there as you feel like)
⟡ the cable is coming out from his head and is often braided with composite cables and will swing depending on his mood, he can also use it to move light things
⟡ he DOES have a remote (I haven't drawn it yet) that he still has because he gave it to Harriet to keep
⟡ the tie has a rose/flower pattern

A boombox that used to play music in a 70s record shop. In the day they used to be next to the counter, and in the night they would play around with any new equipment or look through records and any new cassettes. When the shop was closed down the owner never came to pick them up, so they were left to themselves and moved from place to place in hopes to find something they could call home (they didn't take the abandonment lightly, and it still shows even after all those years)
Koda was hiding from cold in a local auction house when they met Winston, and they choose to cling to him because they didn't want to be left alone again. They later were introduced to Harriet who insisted on keeping them, and they finally found a home they always wanted to have
They are mute and later learned sign language (which was Harriet's idea and she figured that they learn it together) so they could have an easier time at vocalizing their thoughts (they know both BSL and a little bit of ASL). Not being able to speak is rare for speaker-based objects, especially boomboxes that quite known for being extremely chatty. They like to collect cassettes with their favourite songs and albums, mostly from the 70s, and share their little collection with her

He repairs computers of any kind, consoles and any similar tech in his free time for money. He met her when she insisted him on fixing a computer she bought. He though she was crazy when she told him it was "alive", but after he found about it on his own skin, he got interested in the whole thing himself. He offered to keep the computer, in exchange that she could rely on him whenever she needed something or to drive somewhere.
He lets Preston live in his flat and treats him as his roommate because he can't bring himself to treat him like anything else. He also taught him how to fix other computers because he was curious about it, and they bond over shared interests. They love to bicker with each other
Martin is afab and enjoys to express himself with masculine clothes and pronouns (she/her is only for those he's really comfortable with and that won't make fun of it), but would never consider himself male or anything like it. When he figured out that people mistaking him for a boy gives him a huge advantage, he chose to run with is to see how long it will take for people to notice, and it allowed him to do the things he likes in peace. So far the only one that figured it out was Harriet
He also has a prosthetic leg he hides under baggy jeans and sweatpants that he never mentions to anyone or is happy to talk about, but he has fun tinkering with it

A word processor (a portable computer with a typewriter) that spent some time living in a warehouse after his last owner gave him away due to him "not being as good as a real computer". He holds a grudge against both humans and other computers because of the way they used to treat him, and would prefer to be left alone instead of being forced to live with them in the computer warehouse more than anything. He usually rude, uncaring and easy to snap
At one point a shortcut blew one of the capacitors in his head, breaking him. Harriet coincidentally bought him because of her mom mentioning that she always wanted to have one, and because she had a feeling that he might be "alive" and got excited. She found Martin and gave him to repair. When Preston found out that he's in an completely unknown place and that he might be used for spare parts, he attacked Martin in "self-defense". After a few tries he gor convinced to stay and he's been living with him and helping with his hobby. He finally feelt like he gets treated the the way he always wanted to be, and will respect every boundary out of the fear of being abandoned again (something Martin would NEVER do)
Preston is interested in programming and taught himself a several computer languages out of boredom (his favourite is BASIC, one of the few ones he can actually run). He also really likes games, but since he wasn't made with the intention of running them, he opts for handelds, especially a gameboy he once found in a box and actively collects cartridges to

A Gameboy that Preston found in one of the boxes in the warehouse, and since it was in his favourite color, he kept it. It later sprung to life and Preston had no other choice than to treat it as a pet because it got emotionally attached to him (Martin holds shared custody over it to makes sure he won't throw it out of spite). Preston often calls it a "cockroach" because of the way it moves
Chip doesn't speak, but often mimics the 8bit from it's cartridges. It also behaves like it's constantly touch starved and likes to snuggle and play with people/objects it likes, especially Preston, and will do anything to get his attention. It's okay with being used as a regular Gameboy, but only if it wants to. Unlike a lot of small objects, Chip is surprisingly smart and is able to keep up with normal conversations and is very curious about everything which doesn't always ends well
Objects like this are very unlikely to "live" for a long periods of time (because they have trouble sustaining themselves as vessels), but Chip somehow manages to defy that. Because it can't really charge itself, it needs to have it's batteries regularly changed.

Minor characters. Both used to be in the same office in the 60s, and after they heard they were about to be replaced by computers, they decided to run away and promised to never leave each other's side no matter what. They treat each other like sisters and are practically inseparable
They aren't twins in the usual sense, they just happens to be sharing the same model which is very rare, let alone knowing each other's existence, which is why everyone usually refers to them as "Twins". They even chose to look the same with, but still have different fashion preferences and temperament which complements each other
Like most typewriters, they are mute because they lack speakers or components that would allow them to produce speech, but they can still "talk" by making various taps and clicks. It's way more convenient than having to write it on paper, but only other typewriter-like objects can understand it. It's also the reason why nobody really knows their actual names and tend to call them by their colors and silly stuff like it

An object becomes "alive" when a soul settles inside of it. It's unknown why some tend to attract them more than the others and there's no way of forcing it. They can have more than one soul in some cases, but they almost always end up in conflict with each other.
Very small or very big objects are harder to encounter due to their shorter lifespans. Either they don't have enough energy to "keep" the soul, or the soul is too small to fill the space. The ones that happen to be more stable are pretty much self-sustainable and can live as long as they are kept in good shape. The energy is often stored in things like batteries and capacitors or through the whole object.
The soul allows them to experience emotions, dream and have a body they can make look the way they want (the more "stable" ones prefer to look more human-like), among other things. It has little to no influence on their personality and they pick it up based on the people around them and how they are treated by them.
Objects often have an "owner". It's either the first person they met or someone they bonded with the most, and it doesn't matter if that person is aware of them or not.
They also retain their prior functions and will respond to inputs like pressing buttons, remotes or keyboards etc. but they can choose to ignore it. They are also very protective over their original accessories since they consider it a part of themselves.
I'm also adding Adventure here! She's not a part of the story or the world above, but she's special to me
| Adventure, she/he, 2,00 (6'7")

One of the two satellites that used to orbiting an Earth-like exoplanet, and the only spacecraft that gained a form of sentience due to an error in the code (the other one's error caused it to be inoperable and later shut down). Adventure's mission was to observe and map out its surface before she got hit by an unknown object that made her crash into its ocean. Later someone found her, and after fixing her decided to build her a robotic body, so she could explore the planet she had always admired from afar.
The suit protects her mechanical body from debris and water, and the jacket she's wearing was a gift from that person before they went their own ways (she still hopes to see them again)
Very curious and fascinated by the world around her. She loves anything cosmos related and stargazing, but due to the age and internal damages, her battery can't hold as much power as it used to so she's forced to go into "battery saving mode" at dusk. He still enjoys the view as much as she is able to. She also likes to collect rocks, minerals and parts left by rovers and other vehicles.
She's also my Slime Rancher ocs! In Slime Rancher, Adventure is an NPC that is currently exploring The Grey Labyrinth and makes attempts at mapping the place out because it doesn't exists on her internal map, and is a little bit lost ig. Her favourite slimes are Phosphors (she always calls them "low stars" or any variation of it) and Dervish Twin Largos :3
[ design details/extras ] :
⟡ the head is an octagonal prism
⟡ make the solar panels as broken as you want, as long as you keep the bigger chunks missing, or you can make them fully intact. She usually keeps them down because gravity and to conserve energy
⟡ the little sensor in the middle of the dish can emote, but in a very simplified way
⟡ the little antenna bit inside of the dish is optional
⟡ the panels can rotate and move in all directions (they also sparkle and reflect the light around them)
⟡ the neck is a robotic arm
⟡ the back part of her head can glow
⟡ she's missing her left arm for the most of the story
