AWDs are canines
Hyenas belong to hyaenidae. The females have a completely different anatomy than we are used to as well and can be mistaken as males. They are not canine nor are they feline so the two of them can not breed and create hybrid offspring since their DNA does not match up.
Hyenas are also robust compared to AWDs and the females are dominant.
