Answer each question in as much detail as you like. Skip anything you don't know or would prefer not to answer.
How many usernames have you had? (You don't have to share them!)
I've had three distinct ones before my current one, though the one that probably rings bells to anyone is SobiMoppi.
What does your current username mean?
Ceradenia, with and i, is a genus of ferns. I wanted a name that relates to ferns since my irl nickname is close to ferns, plus it shares the first letter with my irl name. At first I went with the proper spelling, but eventually switched to Ceradenja with a j to make it more distinct and it rolls of the tongue more nicely.
What is the first program you used to make digital art?
Technically Paint, but I started using Photoshop 7.0 pretty quickly.
Where did you first start posting your art?
The very first would probably be Gingaworld Oekaki (rip </3), or a finnish Pokémon forum.
What is the first piece of media you drew fanart for?
Pokémon I'm pretty sure. I've been a fan since I was three.
Who was your first self-insert/persona/fursona? What did they mean to you?
The first one was a one-off brown/red dog I drew while at the dentist, though the first real sona was a grey/white husky that I drew at around age 11. The first one I actually got attached to was Jaffa who I created at age 11-12, who was (and still is, though desaturated) blue/turquoise/purple dog. She actually ended up being my secondary sona again after a long time of being unused.
Who is your current self-insert/persona/fursona? How are they different to your first?
I have three (+ several fandomsonas) sonas actually! My main/primary is Fasu, who is a snow leopard / lynx robot. They're a representation of my mind, and very often end up being in my vent art oops. My secondary/nsfw-sona is Jaffa, who I talked about above. She represents my body and is more of the outgoing flashy person I'd like to be. My tertiary sona / soul personification is Sielu. It's a noodly ferret/dragon/thing that's also my page doll. It represents, surprisingly, my soul. This mind/body/soul categorization was initially an accidental discovery, as was the fact that they all together also embody one of my preferred pronouns each.
What phases/styles has your art gone through? (e.g. Did you have an anime era, a cartoon style, a watercolour phase?)
I think the only really distinct phase would be in 2016-ish when I drew a lot of lineless art.
What/who do you think has influenced your art style the most?
Ginga series probably. I've tried working out most of the style quirks but I'm pretty sure it can still be seen in some ways.
What/who inspired you to be an artist?
Again, Ginga. Though I'm pretty lucky to have had a very encouraging family too so that's helped. Especially my dad was always helping me with my digital endeavours.
What tools are integral to your current workflow? (e.g. Programs, brushes, references.)
I work currently on Clip Studio Paint so. That? One of my favorite brushes is called FLAT OIL which I like to use a lot, besides that I use a lot of basic brushes haha.
What improvements have you made recently?
I've been working a lot in animation lately, improving workflow and going with a "less is more" mentality.
What steps would you like to take in the future?
Get that comic going.
» Art programs you have but don't use?
MSPaint I guess. I used to have photoshop and firealpaca but they've been uninstalled by now.
» What ideas come from your childhood?
Some of my oldest characters come from when I was around ten.
» Fav character/subject that's a bitch to draw?
ROBOTS. God I love mechanical stuff but I struggle with detailed shapes already so all my bots take ages to draw.
» Estimate of how much of your art you post online vs. the art you keep for yourself?
Define keeping to myself. There's a lot of art that's only shown in smaller discord servers. I guess I do very little art that I show absolutely nobody, as I tend to post at least to my friends if nowhere else. While I post very little of my art on actual art sites.
» Anything that might inspire you subconsciously (e.g. this horse wasn't supposed to look like the Last Unicorn but I see it)?
I don't know. Nothing that I'd know of or had pointed out. (If you see some influence I'd love to hear you out!)
» A medium of art you don't work in but appreciate?
Any crafts! Especially kitbashing and making stuff out of trash, it's honestly hypnotizing to watch and I'm lowkey obsessed with Studson Studio's stuff.
» What's an old project idea that you've lost interest in?
Probably my Hetalia ripoff comic with wolves. I don't really recall any other projects I've totally abandoned.
» Favorite piece of clothing to draw?
Scarves and cloaks! Anything flowy and poofy is fun.
» Do you listen to anything while drawing? If so, what?
What don't I listen to. I usually have some sort of youtube video on my second screen. Let's plays, video essays, movie/game reviews... and other times it's just music, especially when I'm drawing comics.
» Easiest part of body to draw?
I love to draw the tummy area, so I guess that's also the easiest? That or paws.
» A creator who you admire but whose work isn't your thing?
What first comes to mind is Tom of Finland.
» Any favorite motifs?
I dunno, creatures?
» Where do you draw (don't drop your ip address this just means do you doodle at a park or smth)?
99% of the time: at home. On the occasion I might draw in public, outside or at a cafe. But that's very rarely.
» Something you are good at but don't really have fun doing?
I guess? Shading? I've gotten some compliments on it but it tends to be my least favorite part.
» Do you eat/drink when drawing? if so, what?
Yeah I'm a boredom snacker. Candy or cheese chips if I have access to it.
» Favorite inanimate objects to draw (food, nature, etc.)?
Flowers! I'm trying to broaden my flower skills to be able to draw more specifics but they're fun.
» Something everyone else finds hard to draw but you enjoy?
I hear people don't like drawing feet, but I actually prefer drawing feet over drawing shoes.
» Art styles nothing like your own but you like anyways?
Anything horror-related (especially Junji Ito), realism and anime-ish styles
» What physical exercises do you do before drawing, if any?
... I should stretch my wrists and maybe stand up and have a little walk. But I often don't bc hyperfocus and/or laziness.
» Do you use different layer modes?
I am a hoe for multiply shadows and add (glow) highlights. <3 Sometimes I slap on some overlay/soft light colors to harmonize the image.
» Do your references include stock images?
My references include whatever I can find, so yes.
» Something your art has been compared to that you were NOT inspired by?
Anime. I've desperately tried to stray my style away from the generic anime style but I keep getting comments about me drawing anime.
» What's a piece that got a wildly different interpretation from what you intended?
I don't recall having any piece like that actually.
» Do you warm up before getting to the good stuff? If so, what is it you draw to warm up with?
Either just circles, very stylized dogs or just rough sketches for whatever I'm gonna be working on. Though I don't always warm up.
» Any art events you have participated in the past (like zines)?
MAPs aka Multi Animator Projects, secret santas, art fight and at least one collab.
» Media you love, but doesn't inspire you artistically?
I wouldn't say completely not inspiring but horror movies? I don't often do horror art, and my style tends to be "too cute" for it even when I do but it's still something I very much enjoy.
» What piece of yours do you think is underrated?
This animation meme, I think. :")
