I did not realize the last thing I made was a month ago oh fuck. I swear I'm still making art!!! Yes, its another character reference- HEY WHERE ARE YOU GOING?!
Anyways I saw another journal meme I wanted to do. Specific art questions!!! Mostly to procrastinate- I mean, to take a break from said upcoming drawing.
Art programs you have but don't use
I used to love collecting random art programs. I used to have just Firealpaca, Krita, and Paint Tool SAI. Now I have Paint Tool SAI 1 and 2, Rebelle 5 to add to that! I also remember some other program I got from someone on twitter... but I can't find it?
Is it easier to draw someone facing left or right (or forward even)
Forward with the mirror tool is my go-to when I just want to get a design out on paper. Digital paper...
Fav character/subject that's a pain to draw
Silas (toyhouse link since I don't have his updated ref ready just yet) has given me a headache ever since I made him. I'm always tweaking him in little ways and I'm never happy with it. Plus, it feels like I draw him different every time. Hopefully I can be happy with this next iteration of him for once.
Estimate of how much of your art you post online vs. the art you keep for yourself
Most of the art I make is art I keep for myself. Most of it is sketches, anyways. May come back to them eventually, may not. Who knows?
A medium of art you don't work in but appreciate
Musical artist. I am so envious of people who can take the time to learn an instrument(s) and/or music theory. Who have the ability to get on stage to preform and entertain? I've always wanted to go to a concert but everyone thinks I'm too scared to so I never get invited.
What's an old project idea that you've lost interest in
I had this whole story planned out about this person who was given the gift of godhood. At first they use their powers for good, but then they used it to take advantage of the people around them and essentially got carried away with their powers and demand worship? Eventually they lose their power and everyone turns on them. That, and the millions and billions of OC backstories I went through for all of my characters.
Favorite piece of clothing to draw
Probably a simple t shirt. or fishnets? Leaning towards fishnets. Do accessories count? I love drawing earrings and chokers. Especially anything with spikes and chains.
Do you listen to anything while drawing? If so, what
I hear a lot of people say you shouldn't listen to music while drawing for some reason? I say fuck it, and do it anyways. I notice I focus on drawing better when I play songs adjacent to Radical Face, for whatever reason. But I'll listen to anything in my liked songs, my youtube playlists, and whatever is going on with my Pandora radio. When it's not music I'm listening to, I'll put on a long documentary/commentary style video on youtube.
Easiest part of body to draw
Head. I love making head shots and icons!
Any favorite motifs
Themes of rebirth Ex: the pheonix, the velveteen rabbit. Uh... Anything that has to do with the sea/ocean???
Where do you draw (don't drop your ip address this just means do you doodle at a park or smth)
Too late! Here's my IP address:/just kidding I just draw at my desk. Sometimes if I'm really bored I have my phone that I can just sketch out something random.
Something you are good at but don't really have fun doing
I used to draw Pokemon a lot. I like to think I can draw some Pokemon good, if I try. But it's not as fun as it used to be. I guess I just lost interest in Pokemon? Something I never thought would happen.
Do you eat/drink when drawing? if so, what
I use ice cubes to stim while I'm drawing! Used to be gum, but I couldn't stand it after they would lose flavor. If I'm really in an art mood I'll bring my food with me to my desk and eat there.
Favorite inanimate objects to draw (food, nature, etc.)
I think I like drawing trees! Yeah!
Something everyone else finds hard to draw but you enjoy
Horses. Horse anatomy is freaky and weird and I think its fun to try and draw.
Art styles nothing like your own but you like anyways
That kind of stuff you see on metal albums... Yeah.
Do you use different layer modes
Too many.
Do your references include stock images
I should really use references more often... When I do use references, most of them used to come from stock images. But since the rise of AI plaguing image search, I try to reference from actual art reference sites when I can. Even with all of these filters I have in place, AI images still find a way to rear their ugly head.
Do you warm up before getting to the good stuff? If so, what is it you draw to warm up with
Most of the time, the warm up stuff ends up being the good stuff. And then anything after that is... blah.
Any art events you have participated in the past (like zines)
Nope! I think a zine would be fun as hell, though.
What piece of yours do you think is underrated
I made this Jacko Pose art two years ago and I think I'm still happy with it! Was I way too late to the funny pose meme? Yes. Is the character I drew for this now an entirely new character thus making this design outdated? Yes. But I worked so hard on it at the time.
