i hate the light, i speed at night!
The original was posted here by @/ducclord, originally taken from i-like-eyes on tumblr! I thought this looked pretty fun so I decided to give it a go :]
Art programs you have but don't use
I use all the art programs I have, even if only sometimes. But CSP and Asesprite. When drawing I just use Photoshop, and the other two I like to animate in.
Is it easier to draw someone facing left or right (or forward even)
Facing left most of the time, but I tend to switch that a lot without realizing, so I guess I don't really have a preference.
What ideas come from when you were little
I guess my original species? I was always a big fan of animals and biology so I liked to create my own species, and I guess that carried over into my adulthood... I liked to design monsters a lot too...
Fav character/subject that's a bitch to draw
Honestly, couples lol. I love things like shipping and stuff, but drawing it just feels super complicated pff
Estimate of how much of your art you post online vs. the art you keep for yourself
I have a lot or art that I haven't posted, usually sketches. I feel embarrassed to post things that are super rough and unfinished, specially since most of it is NSFW. So I think maybe 30% or what I draw gets posted.
Anything that might inspire you subconsciously (e.g. this horse wasn't supposed to look like the Last Unicorn but I see it)
I don't know, I think there's a lot of things that inspire me subconsciously. I think to this day I still draw animals inspired by Disney, but that's because I used to draw a lot of Disney inspired stuff when I was younger...
A medium of art you don't work in but appreciate
3D! I know a little about 3D, but so far my knowledge is very limited. So I'm super impressed when people are able to model and animate in 3D, especially those retro PS2 style models!
What's an old project idea that you've lost interest in
I can't even count how many projects I lost interest in, because that would be all of them at some point. I usually start by getting really excited about something, and then I lose interest a few months later.... but then I regain interest and start working on it again lol
So it's more of a cycle for me.
What are your file name conventions
Sometimes, I name the file after a lyric from a song that I'm listening to/is stuck in my head. And sometimes I just give the file a generic name, like I name it after the character/subject, and a number. So like, I'll have "leon" and then "leon2" and so on and so forth.
Favorite piece of clothing to draw
I don't like to draw clothing in general, but I guess my favorite piece would be collared shirts, especially when they're tucked in so they bunch up on the waistline, it creates a nice silhouette.
Do you listen to anything while drawing? If so, what
I listen to all sorts of music! Usually video game OSTs and Dungeonsynth.
Easiest part of body to draw
The torso... I like drawing pecs and abs and stuff like that.
A creator who you admire but whose work isn't your thing
hmm, I don't know, that's hard to say... I guess it would be manga artists like Takehiko Inoue (Vagabond) and Kentaro Miura (Berserk)
Their art is incredible, but I could never get into the actual mangas they are from. Also, any artist that draws for fighting games! I love the art, but I think those games are too complicated for me..
Any favorite motifs
Medieval stuff, specially swords and armour... I like creating patterns inspired by portuguese tiles, and geometric designs as well. I also like marbled patterns
Where do you draw (don't drop your ip address this just means do you doodle at a park or smth)
At home mostly, I don't like to draw in any sort of public space
Something you are good at but don't really have fun doing
I guess drawing backgrounds? I can draw them no problem if someone asks me to, but I don't find it all that exciting to draw.
Do you eat/drink when drawing? if so, what
I usually keep a glass of water close at hand
An estimate of how much art supplies you've broken
I may have broken a few tablet pens at college, by accidentally dropping them on the ground. Same thing for pencils, some of them are so fragile...
Favorite inanimate objects to draw (food, nature, etc.)
Weapons of any kind!
Something everyone else finds hard to draw but you enjoy
Robots, mech, etc... anything with a metal surface. I love rendering metal, and just shiny things in general.
Art styles nothing like your own but you like anyways
The Pizza Tower artstyle honestly. And Undertale/Deltarune. Just any cartoony style I guess. I'm not good at cartoons and I don't find it fund to draw, but they are very visually pleasing to look at!
What physical exercises do you do before drawing, if any
None LMAO. I try to do stretches after drawing, if I have been drawing for a while, just to alleviate any possible pain.
Do you use different layer modes
Yeah, my favorites are Overlay and Multiply, very useful for shading. I like to play around with all of them though, to get different results
Do your references include stock images
Yeah, I use pretty much anything I can find on google tbh.
Something your art has been compared to that you were NOT inspired by
I think the oddest case of this happening was when I drew a scene with dinosaurs and posted in on deviantART many years ago, and someone insisted that I should credit Disney because the artstyle was "identical" to The Land Before Time... I was absolutely speechless at that pff
What's a piece that got a wildly different interpretation from what you intended
That's hard to say, I don't thing it's ever happened! Actually, when I was a kid most adults though the cats I drew were dogs... it kinda pissed me off at the time, but I think at least it pushed me to get better at drawing cats hehe
Do you warm up before getting to the good stuff? If so, what is it you draw to warm up with
I don't usually, I'm very impatient pff
Any art events you have participated in the past (like zines)
I haven't participated in any zines of stuff like that. I've applied to a few, but no luck ; v ;
I have been a part of secret santas and collabs though!
Media you love, but doesn't inspire you artistically
If you consider "artistically" as just visual arts, then it would be series like Breaking Bad. It does inspire me from a writing standpoint though!
What piece of yours do you think is underrated
Honestly a bunch of them dskfhd
But mainly this one. I kinda get why it didn't get much attention, it's a naked dragon dude so it's a bit out there. But I've worked super hard on it, and it's one of the pieces I'm most proud of!
