1-4 of the Western inkfolk species!

The devil squid (Dosidicus gigas) is the second-largest species of decapodan inkfolk. Despite being a LOT larger than most sapient species in their habitat, it is extremely agile and, like most other squids, a cooperative pack hunter. For visual communication, this species uses a combination of movements of their large fins and crown tentacles as well as rapid color change, which stays legible even in total darkness due to the squid's ability to flash and glow at will.

The frilled giant octopus (scientific name missing) is tied with the giant octopus for the largest octopus species. It is an inhabitant of the temperate climates of the Northwestern continent where it is a top predator, hunting most species smaller than it. It is one of the northernmost inkfolk species, with its large size and relatively stocky and short limbs as a notable adaptation.

The reef squid (Sepioteuthis sepioidea) is a highly social and widespread species in the West. It has some of the most advanced color change out of any inkfolk, complete with also one of the most complex visual languages. They mainly inhabit the arid areas and deserts, sporting large fins that help with thermoregulation. It mainly hunts small creatures in its habitat.

The opalescent squid (Doryteuthis opalescens) is the majority squid species in the Northwestern continent. It is similar in some ways to the reef squid; it is highly social and has a mostly overlapping diet, but has much simpler color changing abilities. Its territory overlaps with that of the reef squid in some areas, but whereas the reef squid prefers arid- and desert climates, opalescents are better suited for the cooler climates.
