The rainbow brazilian snake reflects small iridophores that do not move but are on the gloss of the snake’s scales. Squids also have similar cells but can change the pigment at will compared to the material of certain snakes. The type of cells on snakes are like tiny crystals layered on top of each other, so the light that bounces back to your eyes will produce different waves of color.
